Cooking meat leftovers from Sunday

Chocomelon · 23/03/2022 16:46

Made roast beef on Sunday and had half the joint leftover. Made beef chilli with it on Monday. Some of that is probably left in the fridge!

There is a little bit of the beef joint left. Would you eat it today? If heated again?

Yup! Will be delicious Smile and assume it's been kept in the fridge nice and chilled.

Wilkolampshade · 23/03/2022 16:48

Assuming it had been left in the fridge then yes! Of course!

MatildaTheCat · 23/03/2022 16:49

Of course. Why waste it? Meat that’s gone off smells. Obviously there are caveats to that but this is food you have prepared and stored.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 23/03/2022 16:50

Assuming it's been in the fridge, then yes I would eat it.

BreakerOfBras · 23/03/2022 16:52

Yup! I save a little jug of the gravy and have the leftover beef sliced with that poured over it and cooked through. Beaut!

Chocomelon · 23/03/2022 17:15

And what about the chilli that was cooked on Monday from the beef that we roasted on Sunday?

I think the usual rule is reheat once only. But I feel like it would be ok!

And does it make a difference whther it's heated in a pan or microwave?

I think beef is fine reheated more than once. I've done it and even done it with turkey.

Thethingswedoforlove · 23/03/2022 17:36

We always have Wednesday as the last day to use up the roast meat. Anything not eaten by the end of Wednesday is binned (which isn’t usually much at all, if anything).

KrisAkabusi · 23/03/2022 18:01

It will be fine.

Chocomelon · 23/03/2022 18:09

DH has voted for a takeaway.

I don't want to waste the food.

Definitely have it today!

LottyD32 · 23/03/2022 18:57

@Chocomelon

DH has voted for a takeaway.

I don't want to waste the food.

I'd still eat it tomorrow.
Mangogogogo · 23/03/2022 19:11

I would eat the main beef but I wouldn’t reheat the chilli again. I stand on the fence on food.. I buy those left over bags of food on the cusp and I go whoopsie shopping but then I can be really anal about other stuff!
Mine stems from working in hospitality most of my life, having coeliac disease and having food poisoning from hell a few years ago.. I think that has all made me a little anxious about it

Chocomelon · 24/03/2022 21:31

So we got a takeaway from a new place and it was shit. Half the chilli has gone in the bin which is a shame as it was great. Next time I'll tell DH to go one and eat the food that is in the house or nothing Grin

Next time, freeze the leftovers. Either before you make a chilli or after.

Chocomelon · 24/03/2022 21:46

I should have frozen them but I ate my half of the chilli and DH was still working so didn't eat it. I asked if he'd eat it tomorrow and o thought he would. Some if this was on his cooking days but he is unable to plan ahead especially if stressed about work but that's life. I'm a bit pissed off with him tonight tbh!
