AIBU - The Cambridges’ Caribbean Tour is taking the piss

I’ve always been broadly supportive of the Queen and taken a superficial interest in Royal Wedding dresses and so on but I really feel the current tour is taking the piss.
Scuba diving, private jets, Outfits costing £1000s of pounds that aren’t even showcasing British or Caribbean fashion, gala dinners and a massive colonial whiff of the islands’ residents bowing and scrapping to them. All in a climate of massive austerity and poverty in those islands and in the UK, war in Ukraine and Syria. I really think the monarchy should be canned after the Queen dies. We should be ashamed of our colonial history, not celebrating it

Yeah I agree, it seems totally off key with everything else happening in the world and I’m not sure what the point of it is, what’s it even supposed to achieve?

VerandaSanta · 22/03/2022 22:12

I agree. It's just so out of touch. I'd love to see a cost breakdown of their itinerary.

I never usually comment on these threads and I do not usually care but quite honestly I totally bloomin area. With the state of the economy at home, the war etc it really is astonishing to me that they have gone ahead.

Totally with the folk in Belize who basically told them to ram their visit up their hoop. Luckily for them, they at least get to see the back of them, whereas people in the UK are lumbered with them for the foreseeable.

Why so many of us still feel obliged to grovel and prostrate ourselves in front of these parasitical oddballs is beyond me. Parliament had it right in the 1600's, yet we've gone backwards in 300'odd years.

MorganKitten · 22/03/2022 22:18

If it brings awareness to the protests, good.

TokyoSushi · 22/03/2022 22:19

I'm not sure that it's going particularly well either...

Mookie81 · 22/03/2022 22:21

Completely agree, its vile to see.
So colonial and old fashioned.
I cannot bear the Cambridges as it is, this just confirms my opinion of them.

PermanentlyTired03 · 22/03/2022 22:28

It seems in very poor taste, but I imagine it was organised ages ago and the countries they are visiting probably spent a lot of money and took a lot of time preparing for their visit, so maybe they went ahead because of that. They can hardly decline doing certain activities and events it would be rude to the people they were visiting.

StScholastica · 22/03/2022 22:29

I agree, it's embarrassing. Look peasants, royalty are here to grace you with their presence.
Cringe.
