MIL Dentures

Last year as part of my Mother’s Day gift the children bought me a mug. It’s clearly mine as my name is on it.

At the weekend my in-laws visited, we’d had a bite to eat and settled down to watch the rugby. At half time I asked if anyone wanted anything as I was going to have a cup of tea and when I get my mug out of the cupboard my MIL’s false teeth are in MY mug!!

I called my DH into the kitchen and showed him, he thought it was hysterical but did speak with her explaining she could have used a plain mug or a plastic beaker instead however she can’t understand why it’s put me right off using the mug again.

AIBU??

I know I shouldn't but that has made me laugh! Why did she put the mug back in the cupboard, very strange!

So many questions - not least of all - why wasn't she wearing them?!

TinaYouFatLard · 22/03/2022 16:39

Sorry but that has made me laugh. I would never be able to enjoy a cuppa in that mug again!

PhoboPhobia · 22/03/2022 16:39

And no, YANBU

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 22/03/2022 16:40

Next time you need an urine sample collecting use one of her mugs.

thisplaceisweird · 22/03/2022 16:40

Why didn't you say something to her?

She gets sick of them after a while, I’d noticed that she’d removed them but assumed they were in an appropriate container in her bag.

Ew! My mil seated at Christmas and took her teeth out overnight and left them on top of my work Laptop (I use the spare room as an office to wfh). I was raging, ask for a cup or bring a container…I feel repulsed by the laptop now so understand how you feel.

DH started the conversation but I did join in too.

I’d be fucking furious. Really could not see the funny side of that at all.

That's vile and either wildly thoughtless or just plain rude and inconsiderate.
It's literally like brushing your teeth into someone's mug and leaving the spit in it.

chesirecat99 · 22/03/2022 17:02

I'm with your MIL, why has it put you off using the mug again? Just wash it. Would you be so horrified if someone put a baby's dummy in your mug? It's not really any different. Are you disgusted by the idea of eating with a fork or spoon that someone else has had in their mouth previously that has been washed up?

If she popped them back in then made you a cup of tea in the same mug wthout washing it, you might have a point...

Gizacluethen · 22/03/2022 17:07

Ew no I'd hate this. I feel like you definitely ask the person whose house it is what you can use to put your teeth in when you take them out at someone else's house or keep a container with you to store your teeth when you're not using them.

Gizacluethen · 22/03/2022 17:08

Why did she put the mug back in the cupboard?!

CruCru · 22/03/2022 17:19

I can see why you’d be a bit taken aback - but once the mug has been run through the dishwasher it should be fine

Moody123 · 22/03/2022 17:32

That's gross and so funny!
Why would anyone put them in a mug of all places
Buy her a denture holder for Mother's Day!

Iloveacurry · 22/03/2022 17:34

Grim.

LottyD32 · 22/03/2022 17:35

Fucking rank. Bleach the cup 🤮

PigeonLittle · 22/03/2022 17:36

I have a friend with dentures and he genuinely doesnt see an issue but it gives me the ick Envy

When he visits and asks for a cup he always gets one I never use. Yanbu.

@chesirecat99 of ALL the many mugs in the cupboard it’s the fact that it was the one mug that was obviously mine. I don’t think it was personal but the lack of thought has annoyed me. I just visualise her choppers in the mug which isn’t pleasant. I’ll probably end up using the mug as a pen pot.
