To ask if anyone knows what this capsule is?

Hoovering my DDs room. She’s away in Uni and I haven’t got around to cleaning the room since she was gone a few weeks ago. Was hoovering under the bed and found this. I guess I’d always be curious even though she’s an adult but she had a 12 week inpatient stay for an eating disorder this summer and is on meds for same ( it’s not these, I know what they look like) and so is a bit more vulnerable

Look like my supplements. I've got two that look like that. Turmeric and l-cartonine. Both harmless.

TeaStory · 22/03/2022 15:46

It looks like one of those things you put in water and it expands to make an animal-shaped sponge…

ForeverLooking · 22/03/2022 15:46

I'd say supplement. Looks exactly like my stomach ones I take.

LemonMuffins · 22/03/2022 15:47

Might it be a fibre/bulking pill?

gemandjule · 22/03/2022 15:51

Ok. Thanks so much for the fast responses. Don’t normally panic but she was very unwell in the summer and was hoarding meds so as I say, not your “normal” uni student, whatever that might be.

Rosehugger · 22/03/2022 15:52

Yes it looks like a herbal supplement. Maybe ask her gently what it is given the ED.

incognitoforthisone · 22/03/2022 15:53

That looks like it's a fibre supplement that people take to attempt to aid weight loss - psyllium husk or something like that.

I think the theory is that they absorb water and help you feel more full etc, so you eat less, but I don't think they're actually proven to work.

Physically, they're not harmful - they're the kind of thing you can buy in Holland & Barrett. But (if this is what that capsule is) obviously it could be connected to the fact that your daughter has an eating disorder. Hopefully it's something that just got dropped months ago before she went into hospital and that she's no longer taking.

APeakyBlinder · 22/03/2022 15:53

Agree it's a fibre tablet, used for suppressing appetite. Very similar to this H&B one

gemandjule · 22/03/2022 15:53

@Rosehugger good point. I try to tread very lightly there because she is an adult and is working really hard to stay well. It’s tough to get the balance right.

gemandjule · 22/03/2022 15:57

Hmm. Few more responses now that are a bit more worrying than just supplements. Fuck eating disorders 🤬. It’s so hard to know when it’s truly under control

@LemonMuffins

Might it be a fibre/bulking pill?
I am thinking this, it looks like psyllium husk capsules which I took for a while for added fibre.
WeThreeKingsofOrientAre · 22/03/2022 16:04

This capsule type looks similar to EPH capsules which speed up the metabolism and promote fat-burning through thermogenesis.

DetailMouse · 22/03/2022 16:07

It looks like "natural" laxative to me, but I don't have any experience of the other things mentioned.

catsandquails · 22/03/2022 16:08

I take some high strength folic acid capsules (for a deficiency) that look like that.

maddy68 · 22/03/2022 16:11

Looks like my F2 capsule. It's a herbal supplement. But it is often used to colon cleanse. If she has an eating disorder she might be using it for that

gemandjule · 22/03/2022 16:15

So it looks as though it could be a number of things but some could be significant with regards to her eating disorder. I think I’m just going to have to ask her. She knows I was going to clear her room today as I’m off work with covid and was chatting to her earlier. She was saying she was going to tidy her room in uni so I said I’d tidy her room here. At least she won’t think I was snooping around

Krustykrabpizza · 22/03/2022 16:17

Looks like my vitamin pills

TheHaka · 22/03/2022 16:22

Gabapentin?

ABitOfAShitShow · 22/03/2022 16:22

Looks like a few of my natural supplements. Marshmallow root and ginger both spring to mind. Definitely not ‘real’ drugs.

gemandjule · 22/03/2022 16:28

@ABitOfAShitShow it’s funny. I was worried about “real” drugs when I posted. Now I’m worried about laxatives and appetite suppressants 😢.

Chishnfips · 22/03/2022 16:31

It could literally be anything. Its just a gel capsule with some powder in it. They look like turmeric, ginseng, 5-HTP, St Johns Wort, Mushrooms (any mushrooms not just magic).

gemandjule · 22/03/2022 16:34

Yes @Chishnfips. I’m starting to realize that you’re right.. could be anything. I’ve sent a video of her lovely clean room and also the photo I posted here just explaining how I found it and asking what it is. We’ll see what she says. Thanks everyone for your help

OP posts:
WeirdlyKind · 22/03/2022 16:35

@TheHaka

Gabapentin?
No.

The capsules are opaque white or yellow. This is a clear capsule with a tan coloured powder in it.

gemandjule · 22/03/2022 16:52

So she just texted back and says she hasn’t a clue what it is. I guess there’s nothing more to do. Hopefully it’s not hers at all. If she is taking laxatives or appetite suppressants and isn’t prepared to discuss it there’s not a lot I can do.

NightOwl19 · 22/03/2022 17:05

My DP has supplements that just like that, Tumeric and another I can't think of
