To worry about this head sensation

At work this morning I stood up and felt like all the blood rushed to my head, felt really spaced out, saw black spots and felt my legs were weak. Recovered after a few minutes. Since then my head has felt a bit 'heavy'. Tonight the left side of my head feels very strange, almost like a pressure and my left side of the face has felt a mixture of pins and needles/numbness.
I've had migraines in the past but that normally included a severe headache and aura. Could this just be another type of migraine?

It could be a migraine. But in your shoes, I'd go to A and E, as those can also be how a mild stroke presents in some.
Someone I know had these symptoms and they felt it was a stroke, but it was actually epilepsy.

Angrymum22 · 21/03/2022 20:39

Go to A&E. I wouldn’t normally suggest this but you need to have your blood pressure checked.
DH60 had a stroke recently, he had been having dizzy spells with tingling/pins and needles on one side for a couple of months. He wouldn’t go to see GP and it turned out his blood pressure was sky high and caused moderate stroke. His dizzy spells turned out to be TIAs not migraines.

Throckmorton · 21/03/2022 22:51

I would be going to A&E with that sort of symptom. Might be nothing, but it might be serious.

fibrecruncher · 22/03/2022 00:50

Does sound like you should go to A & E. How are you feeling now?

AuntTwacky · 22/03/2022 01:34

You can get monitors to check bp at home.. not c expensive and easy to use

overnightangel · 22/03/2022 01:42

I hope you’re feeling better OP. Did you go to A&E?

honeyytoast · 22/03/2022 01:54

I had this but minus the numbness. I got an appointment the next day, the doctor checked neurological function, took blood pressure/heart rate etc and I was very reassured. Really hope you’re okay

mommaneedssleep · 22/03/2022 06:46

Sorry for the late reply. I tried to ring 111 but was on hold for ever and decided to just try and sleep it off. Woke up without the heavy sensation in my head but still got a tingly/numb feeling down my left side from my neck to my toes so I'll ring the Gp this morning

I don't usually comment on medical threads, but 100% go to A&E. Your GP will just send you there anyway.

SpringSparrow · 22/03/2022 07:25

I also think you need to go to a and e to rule out whether you have had a stroke. It’s important to be seen as soon as possible, so don’t delay any longer. You can have small strokes before having a major life changing strike, which can be prevented with medication.

LovePoppy · 22/03/2022 10:35

Go to a&e op, cases like this are what it’s there for.

A friend felt like this and it was a stroke. They now face months of rehab and possibly never returning to their career, at only 40.
The earlier you are seen the better

SpringSparrow · 22/03/2022 20:08

@mommaneedssleep how are you now?

I'm feeling better now thank you. The Gp called this afternoon and said that from the sound of things it sounds like it's either a migraine or a trapped nerve. They said if it gets worse to go to a&e or if it's still the same tomorrow to go and see the Gp face to face. It seems to have eased this afternoon though. Still not 100%normal but not as weak or numb as I felt yesterday. Still got a funny feeling in my cheek and arm feels not as strong as the other but hopefully that will be gone by tomorrow

Much better today thank you, completely back to normal. It was obviously just a migraine but I hadn't experienced those symptoms with it before

Glad to hear it wasn’t anything more sinister and that you’re back to normal Smile
