Need to be multitasking

This is hard to explain but I’ll do my best…

I can’t imagine people sitting watching a tv show and getting lost in it, or just chilling and relaxing.

If I watch a tv show, or the football, which I love, I still have to be doing something else. Fiddling, on my phone, anything. It’s as if my brain doesn’t get stimulated by just one thing no matter how much I enjoy it. Even at work I get distracted. Multitasking is so easy for me and I constantly feel I have to do it?

How do I stop? Or does anyone have any strategies, or calming activity ideas for me to do whilst relaxing?

I am very much like this! I'll watch something on tv while reading a book or online shopping or playing a game.

My son is exactly the same.

I believe it's an ASD trait.

I can only fully concentrate on a film if I’m in the cinema and my phone is switched off in my bag.
If I’m infront of the telly, I’ll be on my phone. I can’t fully concentrate on the show, but I am listening.

When I’m work (admin based office role) I have a stress ball and one of those fidget poppers at my desk that I play with when I’m doing something really important. I find if my hands are busy doing something my mind can concentrate on something else.

I do have anxiety, and a wild imagination. Always coming up with bizzare scenarios and my mind is always wondering and racing at 100mph. I think that’s why I’m like it.

Yes I’m exactly the same!! I have to be doing something and I can’t focus my full attention on one thing. I am thinking of getting something to do with my hands lol. I thought of even taking up knitting or something that I can do whilst I watch tv hah!

I’m starting to find it so frustrating though. My DP can just relax and focus on one tv show and not reply to me via text because he’s so focused, I just wish I was the same lol !

It’s what we have become used to. Try putting your phone in another room and just make yourself sit and watch TV or whatever it is.

Yeah you’re probably right. Although, if I do that, I end up fiddling with something, or staring into space and my mind goes off on one ! Or I’ll eat, or start cooking, or anything 😂
Anyone know any good potential activities, such as the knitting?

Knitting, crochet, patchwork, subversive cross stitch.

Screens/phones are like crack for our brains. You might benefit from a digital detox

Look at ADHD. Changed a lot for me.
