To book a holiday before a passport arrives?

Found a really good deal today for a week’s holiday abroad during Easter. Got all excited, dug the passports out and have realised that ds(12)’s is out of date! 😫… This would never have happened I’d it wasn’t for bloody Covid!!

Anyway, I’ve booked a fast track, so it’ll be here for 5th April… as long as the week fast track works! Doe any one have experience of it not working?

The date of the holiday is 8th, so cutting it very fine!

Would you?!

PartyPlan · 20/03/2022 21:23

I wouldn’t as I’m risk averse. Seems too close.

MurmuratingStarling · 20/03/2022 21:26

100% definitely NOT !!! You're just asking for trouble. Easter weekend is just 3 and a half weeks away. I got my passport in January, and it took nearly 5 weeks, and that was proper off-peak. You will very likely not get it in time.

DenverDoer · 20/03/2022 21:27

My passport very recently took ages, (2 months!), but that wasn't fast track. I think they're very busy atm with everyone starting to travel again and renewing. Personally, I wouldn't book anything until I had it in my hand but like PP I'm risk averse!

MurmuratingStarling · 20/03/2022 21:29

And all the LOLz at yet ANOTHER 'we are going on holiday, and I just discovered my child's passport is out of date' thread.

We were due one. Been at least a week. Wink

Was that using the 1 week fast track?!

I did this. Went in on Friday to hand in the fast track application. Going Thursday week. In THEORY should be fine. As long as there are appts to book that work time wise should be fine. They go v quickly tho.

HaggisBurger · 20/03/2022 21:33

@MurmuratingStarling the whole point of the fast track is you are guaranteed it in one week though!! And they check it when you bring the form ….

NeedleNoodle3 · 20/03/2022 21:34

Mine recently took five days not fast tracked.

MurmuratingStarling · 20/03/2022 21:35

Why would it have taken almost 5 weeks if it was the one week fast-track??? 🙄 What are YOU on @MsWalterMitty ??? Confused

I didn't notice the OP say she wanted to use 1-week fast track Blush

My bad. And I am not even drinking!

As you were. I'm out. Sorry. Hope you get your passport @MsWalterMitty

HaggisBurger · 20/03/2022 21:38

@MurmuratingStarling - you didn’t say in your post that you used the Fast Track service though? What on earth did the passport office give as an excuse for it taking 5 times longer than guaranteed? You went in for your appointment and they checked it??

HaggisBurger · 20/03/2022 21:39

@MurmuratingStarling - Ahhh!! Yes a normal application could easily take that time. You gave me a fright lol

I have the passport appointment booked for the 30th. Soo in theory passport would be here for 6th.

Not booked holiday though

In theory yes ok but it's risky Smile

Because my op specifically asked about experiences with the 1week process and you have replied telling me yours took 5 weeks. I was just confirming whether that was your experience with the 1 week service

FantasticMax · 20/03/2022 21:42

I wouldn’t book a holiday with that tight a timeline but we did get our passport renewals back really quickly, less than a week I think and this was January.

70kid · 20/03/2022 21:45

I wouldn’t personally -
I wanted to book a holiday in Feb but I didn’t book it until I renewed my passport on a one day renewal and collected at the passport office

I'm going against the grain! Book the holiday. You're guaranteed the passport

I would have done it this way as it’s much much quicker! But they don’t do child papers this way.

The passport application service seems to archaic

OP posts:
Lunde · 20/03/2022 21:48

Will you need to put passport details on your holiday booking?

@MsWalterMitty

Wow how rude. And I apologised too. I take the apology back, and hope you don't get your passport on time. And in future make sure you CHECK the dates of your child's passports instead of coming on here, wanting to know if the passport office will move mountains for you, because you CBA to check the dates of your childrens passports.

Now THERE is your snotty comment! ^
