Any car experts? Battery light issue VW

Hi,

I have a VW Up and the past 2/3 years i've had the battery light on, on the dash. Ive changed the battery, had the alternator tested which showed the right volts and it's been plugged in etc and nothings come up. It's passed straight through all the MOTs and services, but the battery light is still on!

If you put the windscreen wiper on the first speed, the battery light goes off, but any other speed then it comes back on. When the battery light is on, the rear windscreen de-mister won't come on, but if the wipers are on the first speed then the rear de-mister button works!

Any ideas at all? Is it an easy fix or is it some complicated wiring which could be anywhere?

Many thanks!

Sounds like one of the earth leads is loose or touching another wire.

Ah, thank you! Is it an easy fix or is it a garage job?

Id agree. Sounds like a dodgy earth.
Have a look locally for a recommended auto electrician. We have one that comes out and works on the drive on one of our classics and he’s fab.
