In 2006, the entire cost of running our prisons was just £2.2billion, barely a fraction of the cost of the welfare state. That was smaller than the sum wasted every year on benefit fraud. And the cost of crime across the country was estimated at £60billion

Having more prisons does not decrease crime. See America for example.

No. Prisons don’t reduce crime they actually make people more likely to become ‘hardened’ and commit more crimes.
The safest countries with the lowest levels of crime are the ones who don’t treat prisoners poorly or lock up people for minor crimes.

Prisons here are under funded and so frequently dangerous and dehumanising.

No. We use prison as a sentence too much as it is.

There also many who should be in prison who aren't . Nasty, violent thugs who appear in court time and time again and get away with a slap on the wrist. No though at all for the victims, many of whom have their lives ruined

No! We have got to focus on rehabilitation and tackle the causes of the crime. This country is such a shit hole and they are not helping!
