Negative for high risk HPV, cervical smear

I find cervical smear appointments very stressful and I can’t really deal with this stress right now as I have lots of other things to deal with.
I ordered a private HPV test which is a self administered simple vaginal swab and it came back negative for all the high risk HPV. I’m in a long term marriage so I don’t have other sexual partners.
I’m very overdue for my cervical smear but I’ve heard they don’t look further anymore if a sample is HPV negative. My previous smears years ago were all fine. It means they won’t look for abnormal cells unless I’m positive for HPV.
I know there are cases when GP practices delete you from the patient list if you refuse to attend smears. Do I need to worry about that or they will be satisfied with the private negative HPV result? I receive reminders from the practice from time to time.

Contact your GP and discuss it.

There are NHS trails if home HPV testing being used instead of smears. Additionally the HPV vaccine has proved to be very effective. In light of developments in this area, talk to your GP, provided they are up to date on developments they may accept the private HPV test.
