To ask your experience of going to court as a rape victim?

I will be cross examined about having been raped in a few months, and wanted to know if anyone else has been involved in the court process for rape. What was it like? What do you wish you'd known beforehand?

I know the conviction rate for rape is tiny, but I had to report it so that it's harder for him to do this to someone else

I can't directly answer your questions, but work in the area. I'm based in Ireland, and there is an excellent book called Ash + Salt by author Sarah Grace (if you google you'll find some interviews, etc.). That book has a dedicated section on pre-trial preparation and the trial process. This is a new book, the author is a solicitor, and I'd consider "state of the art" with respect to what is happening here. The book is fairly open, in that it suitable for survivors, their friends/family, etc.

You really need to get legal support in your local area.

You are correct about conviction rates, but it really is people like you that push ahead against huge challenges and make things better for the majority later. I am in awe of your courage, your thoughtfulness for others, and really wish you the best.
