To ask how do you get your mail if you don't have a letterbox

Posting leaflets around my local area tonight as a favour to a family member (not an advertisement or junk mail) and out of 4 streets I did, 3 houses on them had no letterbox. Nothing in the door, and no box affixed to the wall, absolutely nothing. How do they get their letters?! Does this mean the postman has to knock on every time they have a letter and if they're not in, they don't get it? And why? I mean I can guess maybe for security reasons?

Does anybody on here not have a letter box?

They probably use a PO Box and just collect their mail when they want to.

There is confusing reason why I don't have a letterbox. But we are all used to it now. I live very rural and there is usually someone home. But we can't hear the door or I am in the garden ect. It's been the same postman for years he doesn't even knock anymore. He just walks in. He uses the back door. Theres a sort of porch and he leaves the post by the inner door to the kitchen.

You can just collect it from the Post Office I think.

Many people don't have post boxes but leave their doors unlocked and the post is just put in the porch.

I'm a postie. Quite a few people with the new composite doors don't want a letterbox spoiling them. Then they complain they don't get any post

Yes they were all new composite doors! I don't understand that at all. A letter box is just a part of a door 🙈

They stick stuff through my cat flap usually... I do actually have a letterbox, it’s just on the other side of the house and everyone seems to think my back door is the front door.

My parents live very rurally and have no letterbox. The postman just leaves letters in the porch on the front door step. In summer they keep the front door open most of the day so he’ll just shout hello and pop the letters on the table.

Maybe they messed up when ordering the new doors and forgot to add a letterbox when choosing handles etc

What about replacement credit cards. Don't fancy leaving them where other people can access them.

We forever get someone else's mail. They don't even live on the same street as us. The street names are miles apart.
1st time return to sender.
2nd time I took it to their house . They had no letter box!
3rd time I gaffa taped their mail to their front door.
5/6/7th time return to sender
No more mail.
Did a dog walk past their house and they now have a mail box & gaffa tape marks on their door

Our postman just comes in and pops the post on the table
