Contraception advice

AIBU for traffic. Sorry.

There's a 6-8 week wait for coil fittings at my doctors. I've always had a Copper IUD.

I'm thinking about getting the pill instead because of the wait. Can anyone advise me on whether I should go for the mini pill or the combined?

The reason I went on the Copper IUD was because I didn't like the side affects from the pill but that was about 18 years ago, the pill may have changed since then.

Thanks

Mini pill may not control your periods very well and can cause irregular bleeding or may stop them.
Combined pill may be a better option as long as you don't have risk factors against taking it. (High BMI, high blood pressure, smoker)

The pill generally takes a few months for your body to get used to but everyone has a different experience of it. Personally I loved the combined pill I didn't have any side effects and it worked perfectly but I started getting migraines and had to go on the mini pill and didn't like it. It screwed up my skin, I had mood swings, put on weight. I stopped taking it and now use an ovulation tracker and I'll never go back now I wish I had come off of hormones sooner!

What's making you not consider waiting?

Could you take it short term until you get a coil appointment
