I've just been sent an eye watering bill where it's claimed I've used 30000kwh of gas over four months. Anyone else received such a high bill? I live in a tiny 2 bed and we are out all day. I'm scared stiff and just cannot afford to pay this. I've tried calling them but you can never get through. This can't be right surely ???!!

What is your meter reading?

Morph22010 · 16/03/2022 07:39

Does it agree to the meter? Had you been submitting readings or has it been estimated for a long time before?

implantreplace · 16/03/2022 07:39

Very easy to check OP

Beamur · 16/03/2022 07:39

Have you checked your meter readings?
The last time I got a ridiculously high bill it was an incorrect reading..

lollipoprainbow · 16/03/2022 07:42

The estimate is lower than the smart meter reading. There's no way that can be right.

Sounds like the meter reading has been entered wrong. I had a meter once were one of the dials used to stick about half-way between two numbers. The lower number was usually read, then one day the higher number was read, resulting in a higher bill. The meter was replaced when they sorted it out.

implantreplace · 16/03/2022 07:44

Last four months were winter

Check with same bill from last year

Getoff · 16/03/2022 07:45

Why would there be estimates if there's a smart meter?

lollipoprainbow · 16/03/2022 07:47

The highest average per year is 17000 how can it be 30000 for four months ??

OP posts:
implantreplace · 16/03/2022 07:47

Last month I used 1216 kw

2.5 bedroom
3 people

So would be much more than your 3000 over four months
Also put most of the day, every day

Gazelda · 16/03/2022 07:47

Have you got a meter reading?
Have you got a bill for the same period last year, with accurate readings rather than estimates?
Is there a chat facility on their website?

implantreplace · 16/03/2022 07:47

30000?!

implantreplace · 16/03/2022 07:48

Post the bill (hiding details)

lollipoprainbow · 16/03/2022 07:48

@implantreplace yes !! 30,000 for last four months

I thought the point of smart meters was that you didn’t have estimated bills

implantreplace · 16/03/2022 07:51

Another point of smart meters

Is that it allows you to track usage so not taken by surprise!!

Sirzy · 16/03/2022 07:52

Has your smart meter been properly plugged in so it can send updates as needed? If so why does an estimate come into it?

lollipoprainbow · 16/03/2022 07:53

The smart meter was set up with utility warehouse then I switched to peoples energy then they went bust to I'm lumbererd with BG. I wonder if it's something to do with that.

OP posts:
implantreplace · 16/03/2022 07:53

Have you not looked at it once over the four months to track usage?

lollipoprainbow · 16/03/2022 07:54

@Sirzy is that the reader that you have indoors plugged in ? I've got one but it hasn't been plugged in since I left utility warehouse.

Sirzy · 16/03/2022 07:55

Most smart metres don’t move over companies do they?

Did you take meter readings yourself at every point of change over?

MintyFreshBreath · 16/03/2022 07:57

Bloody hell. We only used about 3.5k over 12 months in our old house which was a 3 bed semi. Have you entered the right readings?

lollipoprainbow · 16/03/2022 07:57

@Sirzy No I've been really lapse at all of that, I've really messed up.

lollipoprainbow · 16/03/2022 07:57
