I ordered something from a high street shop as a gift for my DC. When they arrived, I realised they come up quite large and DC will need one size smaller. I took it to my nearest store and luckily they had the smaller size in stock so took it to the till along with the pair I had delivered and the receipt and asked for an exchange. Still in packaging, never even been tried on, etc etc.
They refused to do the exchange. Apparently they won't exchange items that are ordered online, I'll have to send it back via the website and wait for them to send me the smaller size. By the time I faff about with all of that, DCs birthday will have passed.
I've never come across this before, I've always been able to exchange or refund items in retail stores even if they were originally ordered online, so frustrating as I literally had the exact item in my hand! It was only after leaving the store that I remembered they'd irritated me when I went to buy my nephews birthday present last year and tried to use my Unidays discount. Turns out they don't allow it in store, you can only use it when ordering online, again not a policy I've come across in other stores.
AIBU to think this is a silly policy? To be honest, its a store I cant stand so not shopping there again isn't really an a problem and I'm sure their profits will survive without my business! I just hate silly little policies that make things harder for people when there are more simple solutions that make things easier!
