Baby name situation

My cousin is having a girl about a month before I'm having a girl.

I mentioned the name I wanted to use months ago. I've wanted to use this name for years. Cousin said she didn't want to use the name.

Cousin has now changed her mind and used the same name.

Can I still use the name ?

Of course. Why on earth not?

A cousin? So no shared grandparents even? I’d have thought that would be fine. Your DD will be (say) Anna to your parents and in-laws, but probably known as “Anameone’s Anna” to your aunt/uncle/cousin’s family. But I can’t see that being a problem.

How close are you to your cousin? If you are like siblings and see each other all the time, I’d give my child a different name. But if you pretty much only see each other at weddings I’d go for it.

Well, if the babies won't have the same surname I think it's ok, I guess the great grandparents aren't still alive/? Mightn't want to have two great grandchildren with the same name but that's nowhere near as bad as leaving grandparents with two grandchildren with the same name.

Do you want everybody thinking you copied her though? If her baby was born first, they will think you copied her.

What's the name??

Just seeing that written down. I'm not willing to give up on the name I've loved for years. I think I know what I need to do.

Yeah this is my concern. That they think we've copied, when we haven't.

I think I just need to not care about it and tell everyone who asks that we just happened to like the same name and that they were aware that's the name we wanted... but used it anyway.. I'm kidding with the second part.
