To be so upset with my hair

Hi all! Had the same hairdresser for around 8 months and she’s always brilliant. I’ve gone from quite dark hair to a nice blonde balayage and highlights quite near to my root to blend.
Anyway, I went to my appointment this morning and I just feel like she’s completely fobbed me off and done a crap job. The mid lengths and ends of my hair are blonde enough so we agreed to spare the bleaching and just opted for highlights at the top to bring my dark roots up blonder. The same as I had last time which I was really happy with and was a lovely shade of blonde.
Asked her to do a full head all the way through and she said yes she was taking them the whole way through. At a point during the session she said she was on the last section but she had probably only done a few layers of highlights on the top (t zone ish?) so I asked her to please take it all the way through and include the nape of my neck and around my hairline/ears etc.
Anyway, long story short after the bleach and tone my hair looks absolutely fucking awful. The mid lengths and ends are fine as they were already the colour they are now which is a nice golden blonde colour. My roots are bright ginger but “toned down” with whatever toner she’s put on and obviously blended with my natural colour. I just hate it so much and I’ve actually had tears. I feel embarrassed to leave the house because the top of my hair just doesn’t match the bottom and it looks horrible. She seemed really pleased with it but I have a feeling she was putting it on. Still charged me full price and acted like there was nothing wrong with it and now I feel too embarrassed to text her and say I’m not happy even if to just let her know. I definitely wouldn’t go back to get it fixed. I just don’t know what to do, should I book in for colour correction with a different salon?

To add it looks even worse when tied up in a high or low ponytail/bun as the sides are dark brown then I’ve got random white bits at the front and the rest of the top is ginger with a blonde ponytail! And the ginger bits have got this awful glint to them

I would contact the salon and let them know that you're not happy with it and then ask if a more senior stylist can correct it. Are you sure it's as bad as you think?

hannahmontana00 · 14/03/2022 00:34

Do you have photos?

I would let her know, even if you don’t want her to correct it, she may offer a partial refund? You know her better than us I suppose

HiJenny35 · 14/03/2022 00:36

It's hair, perspective, put it back in a pony tail, stick a head band on, get a darker shade all over toner from the chemist, pop it on, move on. Try a different hair dresser next time if you don't want to go back to get it corrected.

Call and complain. She knows she fucked up

kittensinthekitchen · 14/03/2022 01:13

Pretty much every time someone starts one of these threads, it's because they've asked for a bloody "balayage". They seem really shit

CassieMc543 · 14/03/2022 01:15

I'd complain asap. You've paid good money and they should fix it for you. Hope it gets sorted x

ouch321 · 14/03/2022 01:20

Where is the photo?

Otherwise we can't see if it looks good or bad. People often post stuff like this, they put a photo up and no one can see the problem.

I've been getting them for years, mine always turn out great. 🤷‍♀️ It's really just a different type of highlight.
twominutesmore · 14/03/2022 05:47

I'm sorry that you are disappointed and upset but struggling to understand how you could pay and walk out without saying anything if it's as bad as you say. I think you should call and tell her how you feel and give her an opportunity to put it right.

Hair disasters are disproportionately upsetting, aren’t they? Sorry you’ve had a colour that you dislike so much.

I voted that UABU, purely because you presumably told the hairdresser you liked it and paid… You need to find your voice! If you dislike it that much, you really need to tell the hairdresser and give her a chance to resolve it, especially if you were happy with previous colours by her. Do you have any photos of your previous hair colour or images of what you were aiming for, so you can demonstrate how badly this has gone wrong?

User73ui843 · 14/03/2022 06:07

Let's see. Did she charge for full head but only do top section?
I'd complain about that as much as the crap job

implantreplace · 14/03/2022 06:09

If it is as bad as you say
You should walk in there and the hairdresser and colleagues should immediately agree
So go back
No drama
Just wake in, ask to see the hairdresser, point to your hair and say - please can this be urgently addressed, as you can see- it looks awful

Justilou1 · 14/03/2022 06:16

She’s fucked it and she knows it very well. You’re totally right that she was putting it on. Call her back and let her know that you were in shock yesterday and didn’t know how to react, and now you’re mad about it. You can’t believe she let you leave looking like that, and you hope that your hair isn’t fried as a result. (Sounds like you were left a bit too long under bleach and you’re over-processed.) Ask what she intends to do to fix it.

CassieMc543 · 14/03/2022 08:27

I usually find when I get my hair coloured it looks different in natural lighting at home so just say you didn't realise how bad it was until you got home and you're upset at the result.
I get mine copper and it was always looks more vibrant and nicer in natural lighting in my case.
I've had balayage in the past as well and it was too high maintenance for me personally. Even though I know it's supposed to be low mainenance. I've had a few disasters aswell with balayage so went dark and then decided to stay copper/red

Lots of people struggle to express their disappointment and dissatisfaction at the time, they're busy processing the shock. Totally normal.
hannahmontana00 · 15/03/2022 18:40

To be fair, hairdressers have harsh lighting where you can’t really see your colour properly until you’re in natural light/at home in a familiar setting. I have hair hair that looked blonde in the salon with their bright lighting, but darker/more warm when I left. Sometimes you don’t get the true picture until after you leave.
