Do people from other countries send couriers ?

No AIBU posting for traffic!

Sold my pram today had multiple "scam" messages we will send a courier etc which I ignored.

Then had another which I thought was again a scam due to their name and profile but they actually spoke in sentences and agreed cash on collection.

Showed up didn't want to look at the pram at all gave me the cash and left, they was in a large van with foreign writing on and plates.

My DM said people will collect things from England and bring them back to other countries in Europe to sell for more or if its to expensive to buy online! Is this true?

Just a bit worried after all the scam messages I have had! Not actually sure what I'm worried about as the money seems realBlush

So someone showed up, paid you and left. He was driving a foreign van, like many people do when they've just moved here. What's the problem?

Moody123 · 13/03/2022 07:24

It sounds like they have moved to the area ...
However if the money is real I'm unsure of the issue either way? You got what you wanted and so did they

whyohwhyohwhyohwhywhy · 13/03/2022 07:26

Foreign person buys pram.

I do agree those scammers are a pita, but I don't think you need to worry about this

MaizeAmaze · 13/03/2022 07:30

I thought the scam bit of this was they agreed to the sale, but then get you to pay a collection/insurance fee electronically up front. Since you've got the cash, I dont think there is an issue.
Does it matter what they do with it next? You've sold it for what your happy with, they can use or sell on, whatever they want to do with it?

Hellocatshome · 13/03/2022 07:32

You got cash they have taken the item I dont see an issue.

I bought a rabbit hutch on Facebook Marketplace thennhired a man with a van to go and collect it for me. He took my cash gave it to the seller, bought the rabbit hutch to me and then I paid him for his services but then I suppose that was OK because none of us were foreign Hmm

liveforsummer · 13/03/2022 07:33

Sounds scammish but now you have the money, assuming this was a marketplace type advert and not eBay then I'm not sure what could actually go wrong at this point.

PAFMO · 13/03/2022 07:36

I don't understand the connection between you receiving money for something you've sold and it being collected (allbeit by someone in a van with foreign writing on it) and scam messages.
Are you saying you received lots of offers for the pram which weren't real offers? Or messages about collecting the pram which weren't real? Where were you selling it? What language was the writing?

But, yes, foreign people buy things, pay for them and arrange collection if required.

ImInStealthMode · 13/03/2022 07:40

I suspect people all over the place buy cheap stuff on marketplace in large quantities and then sell it on elsewhere for more money. Both foreign and native Hmm

StrongerOrWeaker · 13/03/2022 08:17

Assuming you have definitely received the money ( as in it s not a cheque you haven't cashed yet), I can't see why it would be a scam?

The messages were all the exact same

Hi is the item still available.

Yes.

Ok I will buy but as I am busy working I will send courier who will give you an envelope with the cash and take the item, what is your email. Etc

I wrote this post straight after so think I was just a bit panicked that everything these people said was what in a way then happened but luckily was genuine! I guess I'd only truly find out if I try to use the money and its fake but it looks real!

Probably pregnancy hormones getting the better of meBlush

What?!

Please stop blaming pregnancy hormones for your bizarre, leaping, logic.

I’ve heard about this, as a lot of people post on our local FB pages asking if it’s a scam and the responses are always yes and to avoid at all costs.

But I’m not seeing how it’s a scam if they’ve given the money (and it’s not counterfeit) before taking away the item.
Surely that’s just sending a courier to do the pick up for you.

I can’t figure it out.

Hellocatshome · 13/03/2022 17:28

The courier scam usually involves you paying some sort of fee. Giving you cash on collection is not a scam (unless its counterfeit money but then thats the same with anyone who gives you cash)
