To part ways with nail technician for this?

Been going to a lovely nail technician for about 18 months. She's great, reasonably priced and does a good job. I follow her on Instagram to get nail inspiration.

She's recently become a consultant for a well known MLM. All good, her choice. But she's now spamming her whole network on Instagram with news of her great new second job and how she's making a ton of cash etc... (the usual script). I'm not interested and was considering unfollowing her.

Then she stepped it up a gear. This morning she started posting about how she'd invested £500 into Bitcoin and made £5k overnight.

I'm appalled. This is a classic MLM Ponzi scheme which only works if you con those underneath you. I can't, in good faith, continue to use her services knowing she would treat people like this.

So WIBU to cancel all my future appointments and find someone else??

No, you can choose to stop using her services for any reason.

I think it is reasonable to avoid anyone pressuring you to join a MLM scheme. If she loses a lot of customers she may see the light sooner rather than later.
Block chain technology is a different thing entirely, however I am certain she is lying about making £5 overnight. Lying isn't professional so another reason to part company IMO.

colourlady · 11/03/2022 09:58

That should say £5K!

moonbedazzled · 11/03/2022 10:02

It's a free market and you can do what you want. But if she's lovely, great, reasonably priced and does a good job, why would you want to leave? Just unfollow her.

Beautiful3 · 11/03/2022 10:27

Yes I would. But are you sure her account hasn't been hacked? Perhaps check with her first, if it hasn't then I'd find another nail technician.

springtimeishereagain · 11/03/2022 10:29

Oh yes, her account may have been hacked - this exact same thing happened to my nephew a few weeks ago. The same message on his Instagram.

Startuplife · 11/03/2022 10:33

I did similar to my hairdresser when she started using her business account to post her anti vaccine views. It’s a shame because she’s a great hairdresser but my hair appointments are 4 hours long and I can’t bare to sit and listen to that rubbish during what is supposed to be a relaxing time!

Travis1 · 11/03/2022 10:35

If it’s definitely her then yeah I’d move because I wouldn’t want to be anxious about my appointments being all about her ‘new business’. I left my nail tech last year because she was posting loads of anti vax anti covid bullshit and it was doing my head in

Why do you need permission?

YellowFlowersForever · 11/03/2022 10:37

I’ve seen a lot of the Bitcoin instagram hacks the last couple of months, probably best to check it’s not that.

I get that but the MLM is surely enough on its own. That's not a hack

I pay for a service, not moral rectitude. If I liked the results when she did my nails I’d continue using her.

PennyRoyal · 11/03/2022 11:18

The bitcoin posts are most likely to be account hacks.

colourlady · 11/03/2022 11:24

Yes, of course it is probably a hack. It is getting ridiculous at the moment. Scams of all kinds have increased enormously in my area just in the last couple of weeks and some are pretty sophisticated. Muggings, burglaries and general thieving have escalated too.

MrsLegend · 11/03/2022 11:56

I'd message her and say her account must have been hacked as there are posts that are nothing to do with her business.

If she hasn't been hacked, this may make her think about removing them!

MintMe · 11/03/2022 12:15

Guys!!! She was scammed. I feel terrible!!!

I hope she sees this and sacks YOU as a client.
Ilovesandwiches · 11/03/2022 12:43

Nails are a luxury and you should feel relaxed and enjoy your appointment. If that’s not how you’d feel during the appointments anymore id recommend changing

Ilovesandwiches · 11/03/2022 12:44
