AIBU to think that grab bags crisps should just be for personal use?

Lighthearted I mean come on. It's 48g. I just checked Google to make sure 'grab bag' actually means sharing and it does. I'm sure we used to have share bags, and I can't recall content weight, but I'm pretty sure it was closer to 480g than 48g. I think 48g would've been standard for a normal packet of crisps back in my day Grin.

So I'm not drip feeding, I've just polished off 48g and I'm now going for garlic crackers. AIBU?

@Notallcatsarenicecats thank goodness for that. Either my hands are getting bigger or the contents are getting smaller, or both 🤣

I was going to say yabu as in my mind its a "sharing bag." (When did it strt being called a "grab bag" and why!? What's a grab bag...)

However Ive looked up the g and its roughly 2 of the kids multipack lunchbox packs. I have definitely eaten 2 of these at times...

Chouetted · 10/03/2022 05:24

I always thought it was a grab bag because they're sold in stations and garages... something you grab when you're in a hurry?

Yellowleadbetter · 10/03/2022 05:33

Agree.
Also see “multipacks “ of cup cakes, Tunnocks tea cakes and Jaffa cakes.
I firmly believe that the term “multi” means …”for the individual “ to consume.

Share bags are those big bags of doritos and such that are with the pringles. Grab bags are just actual adult portions. Regular bags are when you're also having a sandwich and a chocolate bar.

CowsAreNotGreen · 10/03/2022 06:20

A share bag is those massive bags. A grab bag is just a big packet of crisps.

What's a garlic cracker? Sounds nice.

CorneliusVetch · 10/03/2022 06:29

Those share bags are one portion as far as I am concerned. Grab bags are often on offer 2 for £1.50, which I believe to be because an appropriate portion for 1 person is 2 grab bags Grin

Yes..this...grab bags are for when you just fancy a load of crisps on their own. Multipack bags are for with a sandwich. Sharing bags are for parties, buffets, family picnics. Smile All sorted!
MaizeAmaze · 10/03/2022 06:53

Crisps and crackes? YABU. Who needs more than a slack handful of stuff like that?
Chocolate, sweets and biscuits however.....

Marmite27 · 10/03/2022 06:54

Grab bags have been around for ages, I remember getting one in a service station on a ‘big trip’ circa 1992. Plus a packaged sandwich that had 3 sandwiches rather than 2!

Marmite27 · 10/03/2022 06:55

Oh and my 4 year old ate a grab bag of prawn quavers walking home on Monday, they’d definitely agree they’re for individual use

ChiselandBits · 10/03/2022 07:01

That is how they're intended yes but it is another example of why we have a weight problem. As part of a meal deal, you get twice as many crisps as you really 'need' and an extra sandwich. Often there isn't an option for a normal sized bag.. Its v hard to leave some in the packet. It encourages over eating. Of course its fine once in a while, but if people are getting a meal deal lunch every day, it adds up. Sorry, back to lighthearted. Blush

picklemewalnuts · 10/03/2022 07:05

While we're on the subject, what's with the resealable packaging on larger dairy milk bars? Who are they trying to kid? Delusional!

Oysterbabe · 10/03/2022 07:07

I bought a grab bag of wotsits recently. The nutritional info on the front is for a 30g portion. There was 36g in the packet so I guess you're supposed to save that 6g for another day. Nonsense.

gogohm · 10/03/2022 07:09

Share bags are 100-150g

Grab bags are twice the weight of most multipacks though

I can easily eat one but shouldn't

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 10/03/2022 07:11

Wait? A grab bag is meant to be shared?!? Absolutely not!

HelloBunny · 10/03/2022 07:13

I prefer the small ones from multi packs, as there’s portion control. But, I’d say a Grab Bag was for one person. The whole bag if you’re hungry, enough fur two portions if not.

Haha and those sharing pouches of malteasers!
TheHoptimist · 10/03/2022 07:22

They have changed- well walkers have
They are now larger but individual bags but they were much larger

dworky · 10/03/2022 07:27

YABU & LIGHTWEIGHT
A family pack is what's required!

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 10/03/2022 07:52

It does annoy me

I don’t want a grab bag its too big

I don’t want a multi pack cos A) I’ll eat them and B) they are too small

I want the mid size packet which used to be everywhere and are now very difficult to find

EatSleepRantRepeat · 10/03/2022 09:00

Individual bags used to be 30g or so, so the extra 18g won't be that noticeable. Plus they sell them in massive bags with lots of air so the portions inside look disappointingly small in comparison (so you end up buying two expensive grab bags if sharing instead of the usual size).

liveforsummer · 10/03/2022 17:14

Well they are sold with individual meal deals so definitely not just intended for sharing! Hat why eternal grab bag though . Makes me irrationally cross 😆

ButtockUp · 10/03/2022 17:19

Well, if the MN chicken is anything to go by, those grab bags should easily give four children a generous portion of crisps , daily, for at least a month !
