Driving and marijhuana

For me it’s very black and white, it’s illegal and no different to drink driving but I’ve just been confronted with people who seem to think it’s not a big deal…

So AIBU to not want my children driven in cars by people who smoke daily?

AIBU Yes you are, it’s ok
AINBU No they shouldn’t drive

nicegirl73 · 08/03/2022 22:38

driving under the influence of anything, drink or drugs is not on and no, i wouldnt want my ds being driven by someone who was high. I dont care in general about people smoking a bit of weed but they absolutely shouldnt driving if theyve been smoking it

appleturnovers · 08/03/2022 22:44

I've got into a discussion with this before, and apparently some people think that because weed makes you "chilled", you're not going to drive erratically or start speeding, which is something drink-drivers might do.

Which of course completely ignores the fact that weed significantly affects your reaction times, meaning you're much less able to respond in time to hazards, or keep your car under control in adverse conditions.

I mean ffs, you can't even drive if you've taken certain antihistamines.

I honestly think that anyone who thinks it's OK to drive whilst under the influence of marihuana clearly doesn't understand how dangerous cars are, and shouldn't be on the road at all, stoned or sober.

(And I say this as someone who used to love a nice spliff every now and again.)

fedoratheexplorer0 · 09/03/2022 00:31

Why is this even a question? Of course yanbu.

FelicityBeedle · 09/03/2022 00:32

Smokes daily as in has a smoke on an evening? That’s no different to a glass of wine. Under the influence of course not

Sweetpeasaremadeofcheese · 09/03/2022 00:38

I remember being in a car with my incredibly stoned uncle driving. Failing to stop at one red light. Didn't go when one light turned green we just sat there. Another light he coasted another ten metres past where you're supposed to stop at the red light. So no he wasn't speeding but still really dangerous!

araiwa · 09/03/2022 01:14

Are you talking about driving whilst stoned or if you smoke weed at all you shouldn't be allowed to drive?

toastfiend · 09/03/2022 02:00

Absolutely not. But I wouldn't want my DS around a habitual weed smoker on a regular basis anyway, tbh.

There was an appalling car accident near my house a few years ago. Both the driver and passenger were killed. Driver had been smoking weed and didn't react in time to make the turn. I'm not going to share all the details but it was horrific and has cemented in my mind that it's just as dangerous as driving under the influence of alcohol. I wouldn't let DS in the car with someone under the influence of anything.

Suzi888 · 09/03/2022 02:08

It’s a drug of course they shouldn’t be driving.

alexdgr8 · 09/03/2022 02:09

the answer is obvious.
i wouldn't be associating with people who hold such views at all.
