Few of my friends and I discussed this horrible conflict in Ukraine and, after a long debate about the current situation/causes/consequences etc, somebody raised the following hypothetical questions:
- If it was OK for NATO to bomb Serbia (non-NATO country ), and separate a part of this country (Kosovo) with a predominantly Albanian population from Serbia, why is not OK for Russia to bomb Ukraine and separate Donbas, with a predominantly Russian population, from Ukraine?
- If Tony Blair gets a knighthood and millions of pounds in salary/fees after bombing and killing Iraqis, based on false accusations of WMD of course, should Putin be entitled to a knighthood as well?
- If bombing and killing innocent children and civilians in Serbia is labelled by NATO as 'collateral damage', are innocent Ukrainians just another 'collateral damage' too?
- If the West can bomb Syria in order to gain access to oil, why shouldn't (God forbid) China bomb Taiwan to gain access to semi-conductors?
etc.
Of course that none of these things should happen, the questions are all hypothetical, but did NATO/US/UK/France (and others) set a number of horrible precedents so now the other big boys can do whatever they want as well?
This is making me quite anxious this evening as I am not sure how anybody can stop this human disaster in Ukraine as the UN has lost its credibility long time ago. The moral compass has been destroyed by both West and East.
AIBU to feel like this?
