Amitriptaline

So I have bursitis and the GP has prescribed amitriptyline to take at night to help with the pain. I'm currently taking 6 x10mg tablets to even slightly control the pain, I can work upto 8 apparently.

However they are making me feel so low and angry that I'm not sure if I should continue or not. I've 100% turned into a horrible miserable person, but I can hardly walk without them.

I have been referred for a steroid injection so it's just a waiting game really.

Wibu to tell the doc I can't cope With them? I feel like I've told her if a problem, she's given me a solution but I'm being a pest by saying no they aren't for me.

Can you reduce the dose slightly in case it makes a difference? If you've just started taking them then it might wear off after a couple of weeks , my Dh had terrible side effects then they disappeared after 3 weeks.

That's an awful lot of amitriptyline. Ive been taking it for a few years (chronic pain and migraine), the GP said I could 'build up' to 50mg if I wanted, but even 20mg is too sedating for me. Can't imagine how awful you must feel going straight to 60mg!

I'd definitely go back and see if there's something else you could try.

I was like a zombie the first few weeks I started taking amitryptaline, but woke up one morning and felt fine. It's certainly helped with the pain, I'm on 50mg.

Can you give it a few weeks and then see how you are? Mine was worth persevering with for less pain.

I agree with others about starting low and building up. I went 10/25/50 over 4 weeks.

Speak to your doctor, asap. There are other drugs you can take that might suit you better.

yanbu obviously

My apologies I should have said, I've built up-to 60mg from 10mg over about 10 days as prescribed. Maybe I need to slow down the increases, any less than 60mg and I can hardly walk, never mind do a 9 hr shift on my feet 🙈

Yeah I'd maybe do an increase every week. If you work set days, do the increase the last day so you have a few days off work to sleep if you need it.
