Can I go back to hairdresser I dumped???

Help me decide - stopped going 3 years back due to his arrogant attitude - eg. making me wait around 30 minutes whilst he chatted on the phone to a friend, answering the phone when doing my hair ( a lot) and generally behaving like an arrogant tit. However....... he did my hair to perfection! He had won awards and was doing the hair of some celebs (minor I would imagine) but this all seemed to have gone to his head and one day I just had enough and went elsewhere.

My hair is ok..... but no-one ever does it as well as Mr Arrogant.

I want to go back but feel really embarrassed and not sure how to explain my long absence - I could say I have been in prison, lived abroad or was held hostage somewhere... but seriously cannot think of much to say to him.

Has anyone else ever gone back to an ex???? :)

Well, a large part if that absence can be explained by covid. The rest, just sat you were really busy with work.

It really isnt a big deal. If you want to go then just make an appointment.

AlisonDonut · 07/03/2022 15:31

Covid?

thewhatsit · 07/03/2022 15:32

Gosh, I wouldn’t over think it. Will he remember you? If he does and says something can’t you just be vague about needing to go somewhere cheaper for a while or not having the time to do it “properly”.

I’ve had hairdressers I’ve gone to regularly and then abruptly stopped, sometimes starting again later. Generally reasons were moving house or having a baby and not having the time to leave them long enough for a good while etc, changing priorities etc …

Mosaic123 · 07/03/2022 15:33

Your friend was doing hairdressing and you were her model?

3luckystars · 07/03/2022 15:34

You could say you had vouchers and were using them, but I’d say nothing and just smile!

EatSleepRantRepeat · 07/03/2022 15:35

I'd just say yeah I went elsewhere for a while, and now I'm back. Hairdressers get this all the time, we're not married to them Grin

Divebar2021 · 07/03/2022 15:36

I have although I didn’t fall out with him I just felt he was too expensive for me. I did have a good alternative but for various reasons I won’t bore you with I went back to my original hairdresser in order for him to fix a bad cut. I walked in and he said “ Hi how are…. What are we doing..” and we were straight back into it. There was no conversation about why I left. I have had an encounter with a hairdresser who does celebrities and had my appointment cancelled in order for him to do some celeb and would hesitate to go back to him. My hairdresser now has national awards but has never made me feel I’m less important than anyone else.

OliveRudge · 07/03/2022 15:37

IME, no. My Mr Arrogant did a couple of great cuts but went back to his arrogant ways and then tried to palm my colour off onto one of the juniors.

Wasn’t worth the humble pie.

KylieCharlene · 07/03/2022 15:37

I'd say something along the lines of a family member was training so they were doing it for free and that's why you haven't been in- that's of course assuming that Mr. Arrogant even remembers you.
If he's that kind of hairdresser there's a chance he won't even give you an appointment.

nearlyspringyay · 07/03/2022 15:41

I wouldn't say anything, just go back and brazen it out

EastYorksLass · 07/03/2022 15:42

Thanks for the replies guys - hmmmm I think I will give it a go then! Think I am overthinking it - he will probably not remember me or, if he does, be too busy talking about his latest awards and celeb :)

He probably won't remember you from 3 years ago and if he did you moved away for work for a while!

TheHaka · 07/03/2022 15:42

I’ve done it many times as most of them aren’t as good as the trainees at the college, best cut I ever had & cheap too. Unfortunately, I can’t always go to the college as they have many holidays, so I feel a bit :-/ but I still go to the other hairdresser.

Jamoffmytoast · 07/03/2022 15:48

Yes brazen it out, he's unlikely to ask where you were? But the factors why you left are likely to come back.
