‘Real’ friends

AIBU to wonder if other people have really close friends? I have a group from when I was at school donkeys years ago. I see them a couple of times a year at most for a night out or wedding etc, and have some work people I see very very occasionally, but I don’t really have an absolute best friend or someone to really confide in. This has become more apparent to me after suffering a loss in the last couple of months and no one has really been there for me at all. Just wondering really if others having close friends they can really lean on as it’s something I’ve always felt maybe I’m missing!

I do but I think it helps that I have different groups of close friends from different times in my life: school, uni, post grad degrees, work etc, so if one isn’t around or has things going on there’s someone else I can talk to but as I get older it can feel harder as people have more of their own things going on. I don’t see the uni ones regularly as different cities but we whatsapp most days and have been bridesmaids etc. at each other’s weddings etc.

Is it possible to cultivate the work friendships or take up a hobby that might give you an opportunity to meet friends?
