To wonder if this could be food poisoning (warning possible tmi description of symptoms)??

DP, DD (10 months) and I all ate out on Friday evening - not somewhere we usually go (chain type restaurant) and all of us ate chicken.

Saturday morning I started with an extremely bloated and uncomfortable feeling in my tummy and (sorry tmi) needing to rush back and forth to the loo. It wasn't too bad that I couldn't get on with my day. But there was the occasional very uncomfortable and crampy feeling. DD kept intermittently crying out suddenly, an unusual cry which made me wonder if she was in pain. DP no symptoms at all at this point.

Early hours Sunday morning DD vomited in her sleep. I woke an hour or so later running to the toilet again and this time had the most extreme nausea to the point I was certain I was going to be sick. I wasn't sick but had diarrhoea. Managed to get a bit of sleep but propped upright next to a bucket as the nausea was so bad. DD wasn't sick again and has woken this morning eating abs drinking absolutely fine. I have aches and pains all over, bad headache and no appetite at all, just sipping water.

DP now feels rough too, he too had to rush to the loo back and forth this morning at breakfast time, and is now aching all over to the point he's crying out just moving about the place. I've got quite severe aches too down my back and arms.

DP thinks it's too late for food poisoning as symptoms have onset around 24-36 hours later. So possible it's just a bug instead.

If it's possible with the timeframes to be food poisoning however, I won't ever be going back to that restaurant so just wanted to see what people on here think!?

Oh dear, it could be food but you would need that confirmed by a stool specimen or maybe norovirus. You can contact your g.p and environmental health for advice.

mimbleandlittlemy · 06/03/2022 13:47

Rough rule with food poisoning is it will show within 4-8 hours - sounds very like norovirus to be honest.

Hope you all feel better soon.

TSJ19 · 06/03/2022 13:52

Hi there is a really horrible sickness bug going round at the moment

RedSquirrelRoar · 06/03/2022 14:53

Sounds like norovirus if you’re getting sick one by one.
You could still have caught it at the restaurant though - you can get norovirus from eating contaminated food (eg if a member of restaurant staff had it and handled your food) or one of the customers could have had it.
Norovirus is super infectious so I don’t think it necessarily means the restaurant is unhygienic.
Make sure all of you stay home for the recommended time after symptoms end, so you don’t spread it, and if symptoms carry on for longer than you’d expect for norovirus, contact your GP.

Yes could be

Hugasauras · 06/03/2022 14:57

DD and I had norovirus before Christmas and we were vomming hourly for 24 hours. It was miserable. Could be any kind of bug or food-related though, hard to say! Is DD at nursery? Stomach bugs spread like wildfire there! That's where our noro came from.

Sofiegiraffe · 06/03/2022 15:07

Thanks everyone.
Yes DD goes to a childminders so possible she picked it up there too.
It's just miserable. I'm snuggled up with DD now for her afternoon nap while DP sleeps on the sofa. None of us have even got dressed today!

It’s a bit of a myth that food poisoning always starts within a few hours. There are lots of different infections that cause food poisoning, and in some cases symptoms can start a few days after you ate the food. 24-36 hours is definitely within the timeframe where it could be food poisoning. But whatever it is it sounds miserable, hope you all feel better soon!

CointreauVersial · 06/03/2022 15:12

Sounds more like a bug to me. Fluids and rest.....hope you all feel better soon.

poodlepoop · 06/03/2022 15:32

Food poisoning can kick in any time between 4 and 48 hours so isn't limited to just after you've eaten. (And sometimes quicker or longer) it could be food or noro,

Sofiegiraffe · 06/03/2022 19:42

I am aching all over, even behind my eyes (?!) and alternating between burning and shivering. Urgh. Is this normal?? 😭

Have you got a temperature if you are shivering. Have you been able to drink anything.
