48 rule after one episode of vomiting?

Asking because I genuinely don’t know, not to be goady or want to spread infection etc!

DD was sick once last night around 11pm, has not been sick since and seems okay in herself.

Does the 48 hour rule still apply in these circumstances - which would be going back to school on Tuesday morning - or would sending her back to school tomorrow be okay?

Surely if it was a stomach bug she would be a lot more unwell?

Yes it still applies

I'd say the rule is the rule. Unless you know what caused it (travel sick, food-poisoning, or other non-infectious reason) then you can't just decide to ignore it.

If they were unwell at 11pm last night it is far too early to tell OP. I’d see how today went. My kids have had instances where they were fine for a full 24 hours but slowly reintroducing solids sent them two steps back and they began being sick again.
Good luck and hope that one episode is all it is.

Yes. It’s 48 hours from last episode of vomiting, doesn’t matter how many times they’ve been sick. It’s annoying when your kids feel better, but it stops them spreading it around.

It depends what you think it could be other than a stomach bug.

RandomDent · 06/03/2022 10:10

I doesn’t depend. It’s 48 hours.

Definitely keep her off, we've had occasions at school where (unbeknown to us) a parent has sent their child in before 48 hours are up only to have the child throw up everywhere! Your child might well tell the school they were sick too and you'll then get a call to pick her up!

justamumseekingadvice · 06/03/2022 10:11

I don’t mind keeping DD at home at all, I just didn’t know because it was a one off whether it still applied or not - will definitely keep her home tomorrow and hope it doesn’t start up again when she starts eating/drinking! 🤞

Dont be that parent op and stick to the 48 hour rule. It's there for a reason. One of the reasons that vomiting bugs are rife in schools is because parents don't follow these rules. You wouldn't believe the amount of parents who try and send their children back in after 24 hours, or who tell their children to lie about being sick. Some parents just don't give a shit about the rest of the children or staff in the school. Don't be one of them.
