Gifts from the sales. AIBU to think they don't count as 'in budget'?

We have a £20 rule for buying gifts in the family.

SIL loves a bargain and admittedly has a great eye for bargains, so you always get something designer/ branded which she says she got reduced with codes/ in a sale. For my birthday she got me a mini make up set which is valued as £50.

It's not that I don't appreciate it, but I feel so pressured to reciprocate with an equally valuable present..... is that a bit ungrateful?

YABU and ungrateful. She’s being a savvy shopper and using her budget wisely.

TabithaTittlemouse · 05/03/2022 21:32

Of course it counts as in budget.

Birdkin · 05/03/2022 21:33

YABU. Sounds like a nice problem to have frankly

betwixtlives · 05/03/2022 21:35

Don’t be ridiculous. It’s in budget, of course it ‘counts’

twovasesoflowers · 05/03/2022 21:36

Ah well, fair enough!

So you're annoyed at her gift?

MajesticallyAwkward · 05/03/2022 21:38

Maybe ask her for tips so you can also take advantage of sales and codes if it bothers you so much?

Notdoingthis · 05/03/2022 21:40

Better than me. My family buy me presents in the sale which they think look £20 but are completely random from the sale bin and obviously reduced to £1.50.

twovasesoflowers · 05/03/2022 21:45

No, my gift is very thoughtful, but it always makes me feel like my gifts to her/ the rest of the family are less valuable. I suspect that this will go down like a lead balloon but hey ho Grin

It's in budget. I love the challenge like this but never expect anyone else to spend ages looking. If the budget is £20 then as long as you're spending £18-£20 you can't go wrong.

CarrieHughes · 05/03/2022 21:45

I sort of understand you OP, but as long as she's happy with what you give.. it's ok!
Some people love the thrill of bargains, no need tit for tat

violetbunny · 05/03/2022 21:46

"Valued at £50" is marketing bullshit. The value is what was paid. She paid £20.

Chloemol · 05/03/2022 22:20

It’s in budget. Why don’t you start doing the same?
