Traditional shepherds pie for dinner tonight. Simmered for almost 3.5hrs. Its beautiful.

DP has smothered English Mustard over the creamy mash topping.

YABU - Nothing wrong with that, I've done that/would try that/probably tastes delicious.

Don’t think I’d have English mustard with lamb personally, but if DP likes it then great.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 04/03/2022 19:56

Mash and mustard is genius.

CareBear50 · 04/03/2022 19:59

If he enjoys it with mustard let him go for it.

Lamb n mustard though sounds vile lol

Dahlietta · 04/03/2022 20:00

Mustard mash is a wonderful thing, but I agree it doesn't really go with lamb.

HeadacheGrey · 04/03/2022 23:04

When cooking I always put mustard in mashed potatoes, gives them a bit of a kick.

Scarby9 · 04/03/2022 23:09

Mustard enhances many foods.
Definitely peps up Shepherd's pie.

SpottyStripyDuvet · 04/03/2022 23:11

Would normally put wholegrain mustard in mash (unless serving children as well)

SpikeySmooth · 04/03/2022 23:15

Mustard is nature's practical joke. Envy (not envy) I'd LTB.

SarahAndQuack · 04/03/2022 23:16

He's only wrong because it's not a nice wholegrain dijon with lovely crunchy seeds.

Mustard is definitely what you want in your mash. Maybe a bit of cheese too.

NewYearCalavicci · 04/03/2022 23:18

I wouldn't, I prefer HP on the side .

sadpapercourtesan · 04/03/2022 23:19

Yeah mustard goes beautifully with shepherd's pie, and with lamb, and meat/spud/gravy meals generally. Bring on the mustard Grin

Phormiumjester · 04/03/2022 23:19

I haven't but now you mention it...

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 04/03/2022 23:20

I think it would be fine. I quite like sweet chilli sauce with cottage pie (not sure about shepherd’s).

ClariceQuiff · 04/03/2022 23:21

Tell him to try Maille Dijon Original instead of English. He won't regret it.

mrsfollowill · 04/03/2022 23:24

Oh-my initial reaction was nooo! but now I think about it mmmmm Grin mustard always improves things.

AmandaMirandaPanda · 04/03/2022 23:28

I don't eat meat, but it sounds OKish to me (not that far out there) to add mustard. For me, if someone tasted what I made and decided it would be nice with mustard I'd be fine with that. It is a condiment after all, meant to be added at the table as desired. If someone smothered a dish in mustard without tasting it first, though, I'd find that a little bit strange.

Thisbastardcomputer · 04/03/2022 23:32

I have English mustard with shepherds pie and mint jelly

BIWI · 04/03/2022 23:36

I wouldn't slather it over the mash, but I'd definitely have English mustard on the side of my plate.

poodlepoop · 04/03/2022 23:44

I'd prefer French mustard ( not Dijon) or a mix of French and English

BIWI · 04/03/2022 23:50

But why French mustard with a dish that's so quintessentially British?!

ClariceQuiff · 05/03/2022 00:00

Fernandina · 05/03/2022 00:03

I spread mustard on cheese on toast. Horseradish too, sometimes.

AdaColeman · 05/03/2022 00:11

He needs some Maille tarragon mustard with shepherd’s pie! Wine

Person123456 · 05/03/2022 05:15
