To be pissed off with pub doing this. Competition con

A pub near me keeps posting a competition to win £100 voucher. But it has to get to 200 likes before a winner is announced. They just keep posting new ones so no one ever wins. Total con. Or clever advertising?

How do they word it? If it’s ‘When this post hits 200 likes, we’ll give away a £100 voucher!’, they’re not doing anything wrong. If they’re taking down the post as soon as it hits 190 likes in order to avoid paying out, then yes, it’s a bit dodgy. But if they’re simply re-running a promotion that didn’t quite work last time, I don’t see the problem.

I think I'd probably stop following their social media as I'd be fed up of posts like this especially if they were at the expense of posts like events and daily specials (food) etc. It's probably just a marketing attempt so people will share it to promote the potential to win £100. I imagine the first time they actually get 200 likes it will increase to 300 on the next promotion.

If they actually do announce a winner when they eventually get a post with 200 likes then it's not dodgy but as with any competition type thing there has to be a time limit so I understand why there seems to be a new one regularly. I'd likely still unfollow as it's not something I'm interested in on my social media. I know business pages (mainly on Instagram but probably Facebook too) can be 'punished' for inactivity and their posts may be shown less which might explain why they're trying to push this.

It's an almost daily new one. So it's impossible to get to 200.

I think I'll stop good idea. Or message all my friends and tell them to like the post 🤣
