How do I call the police urgent

I've just come home after being out since 5:30pm and my house has been broken into whilst I've been out. Do I call 101 or 999? 101 says it's a 50 minute wait to be answered

Second time this has happened in a year, last time I was assaulted. Not sure whether to hang up 101 (on hold now)

Sorry if this doesn't make sense

101

LIZS · 03/03/2022 22:11

999 if recent or in progress

LadyLolaRuben · 03/03/2022 22:12

I'd call 999

TheRealityCheque · 03/03/2022 22:12

Of you think there's ANY chance an intruder could still be inside, dial 999 and wait outside.

biggreenhouse · 03/03/2022 22:12

101 if its already happened and u are safe

RewildingAmbridge · 03/03/2022 22:12

If you are not sure if there's someone still in or around the property 999

Tinacollada · 03/03/2022 22:12

101

BabyTurtIe · 03/03/2022 22:12

It’s already happened it’s not happening right now, no need for 999

OverByYer · 03/03/2022 22:13

101 if it’s not ongoing and you don’t believe anyone is still on your house

Wicker73 · 03/03/2022 22:14

This.
WorraLiberty · 03/03/2022 22:14

101, I've never had to wait as long as the message says. Quite the opposite infact as it puts a lot of people off and they hand up.

Redglitter · 03/03/2022 22:22

Unless you think there's anyone in the house then 101. As pp said the waits never usually as long as they say

Summerfun54321 · 03/03/2022 22:50

Broken into twice whilst out and didn’t feel safe to enter the house so called 999 both times and the police assured me it was the correct thing to do.

Summerfun54321 · 03/03/2022 22:52

Once you call 999 you’ll be prioritised and may still have a fair wait for someone to arrive.

Hospedia · 03/03/2022 22:53

999 and wait outside until they get there.

You were assaulted last time, I wouldn't risk going inside in case someone is still there.

NewYearNewMinty · 03/03/2022 23:01

999 if any doubt that it may still be in progress.

Can you go to a neighbour or lock yourself in your car until police arrive?

HollowTalk · 03/03/2022 23:10

How horrible for you 🌷

BoldMove · 03/03/2022 23:18

Ring 999 and if they think you should ring 101 then they'll advise you to do that. Hope you're not too shaken up.Flowers

VivienneDelacroix · 03/03/2022 23:20

999
