To think the hairdresser should really have offered to redo this?

I had my highlights done last week and I wasn’t thrilled with the results. Looking closely yesterday it looked really bad. I emailed very politely and just got told it was because the photo was taken inside … is it just me or is this really badly done?

To think the hairdresser should really have offered to redo this?

Was it cap highlights ?

monkeysox · 03/03/2022 07:18

Cap doesn't go as close to your head ask for foils

Thursdaycomesagain · 03/03/2022 07:21

It was foils.

Tbh, it looks like I did it myself with some hair dye.

Not as bad as mine. I almost posted the same thread a couple of weeks ago, and I did have foils.

This is the second time this happened. I gave her the benifit of the doubt the first time because I know her really well but I think I'll have to go to some else.

Thursdaycomesagain · 03/03/2022 07:31

Yours looks better than mine to me … mine looks awful Sad but sympathy.

It looks like you need your roots done not just highlights.

Thatsplentyjack · 03/03/2022 07:34

Oh no OP I think yours looks not bad. We're you wanting it right into the roots?

50DaysAF · 03/03/2022 07:36

YANBU. Maybe pursue a refund rather then going back?
I don’t understand how the roots are so dark when they used foils.

Thursdaycomesagain · 03/03/2022 07:38

@Aprilx

It looks like you need your roots done not just highlights.
I am not totally clear what you mean, but I think mine looks as if it hasn’t been done for several weeks when in fact it was done last week.

I’ve had highlights for going on twenty years now - I do think it’s really poorly done tbh.

OP, I don't know if it's just the lighting but your colour looks patchy. Like some bits are blond and some an orangey colour. So I'd go back on that basis. I dont think highlights would ever cover a whole root though would they? Foils or cap will always have a little space at the top.

Thursdaycomesagain · 03/03/2022 07:41

The colour is absolutely horrible on the top - it’s really orangey and brassy.

I know what you mean about a little space but when it’s been done before it’s more muted and caramel in colour so not quite as stark. This is just black and yellow Sad

GreyGoose1980 · 03/03/2022 08:14

OP I think it looks like they haven’t left enough of your natural colour or a contrast colour throughout so instead of looking like highlights to me it looks like an overall blond colour where they’ve missed off the roots.

Russell19 · 03/03/2022 08:16

But highlights aren't supposed to be a full head of colour...

Thursdaycomesagain · 03/03/2022 08:28

I think it’s the lack of darker blonde that’s the problem.

OP posts:
Proudboomer · 03/03/2022 08:29

That doesn’t look like highlights at all. It looks like a full head of colour which is several weeks old and your roots have grown through and need redoing.

VioletVesper · 03/03/2022 08:30

I have highlights with foils and they do get the colour as close to the root as possible. Yours looks like it has grown out 3-4 weeks at the front (sorry!) so I would not be happy at all.

Thursdaycomesagain · 03/03/2022 08:30

Yes and it was only done last week Sad

OP posts:
VioletVesper · 03/03/2022 08:33

Could you visit in person to show them and ask that they re-do the front where they have missed your roots?

Hallowbat · 03/03/2022 08:36

As a hairdresser I wouldn’t be happy leaving a client with that, it looks like she’s missed a chunk out so I would re do it it

Thursdaycomesagain · 03/03/2022 08:56

I know but I’ve emailed with photos and they are adamant there’s not a problem.

I am quite put out as it cost a lot but I will just have to find a different hairdresser!

@Russell19

I agree @Russell19 - that’s what I was saying to OP.
ItWasAgathaAllAlong · 03/03/2022 10:12

I've got quite dark hair with not much grey (yet - I'm heading for 51, so they'll come!) so when I have blonde foils my lovely hairdresser does a combo of 3 different shades of blonde from light to warm honey, and leaves a fair bit of my own colour in between.

In fact, I love the way she does it so it doesn't really 'look' dyed at all, just very subtle. It also grows out the same way without that awful 'line' where the natural colour growing out wins the battle with the highlighted longer bits Grin

In fact, I haven't had mine done since October, and it's just gradually fading out and you can't 'see the join', as it were, with the longer root growth. But it does need doing again now (when I can find a bit of time to relax for a couple of hours at the hairdresser, that is!)

But yes, OP, yours doesn't look like blonde foils done well on a darker base of natural colour at all. Shock I'd definitely press for a face-to-face assessment of the results if you can. (Then they can't blame the light in your photo! Hmm )

Thursdaycomesagain · 03/03/2022 11:21

I don’t think they’ll accept that it is just sub standard Sad and so I doubt I’d trust them again anyway. I am annoyed as I’ve been going there for over a year now so they’ve lost a good customer.
