To think some clever clogs could work this out (Wordle related)

Today I guessed the Wordle answer in my first guess, I mean, what are the chances?!

That's my question really, what are the chances?

AIBU to think there are people on here clever enough to have a bash at working this out?

It's 1 in 12,500 surely? Because there are around 12,500 possible 5 letter words you could pick.

There are 2,315 words in wordle (note this is not the number of 5 letter words in English but a subset) so 1 in 2,315.

A Google search says there are 2315 words in the wordle dictionary, so the odds would be 1 in 2315?

You could guess a word not in wordle though as @RincewindsHat says! The general idea is that they are the more common words so I think 1 in 12,500 is an underestimate unless you like to guess very weird words.

If the word is nor in the wordle list, will it let you input it? Does it have a list of all 5 letter words that it will allow, and also the list of 2315 that it chooses from?

I have a few first word options that I rotate, and a couple of weeks ago the word was one of them - but I used a different one on that occasion!

You can only guess words that Worfle recognises as a word though - it will reject 5 letter combinations that it doesn’t recognise as a word.

I’m not sure if it recognises more words than it would actually use as an answer word though?

But Wordle wouldn’t let you input it as it wouldn’t recognise it was a word.

Actually, that's a good point, just because they only use 2315 words unless I knew them all that would effect my chances.

I gather that there are 2,315 words that appear as possible answers but 10,657 words that it will accept as guesses

It happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I always start with the same word so I've had to change it now. The word was "moist" :-D

Ha ha ha, I use two, moist and bread, that day used bread! 😡

I sometimes use audio due to the vowels but not today baby!

Wordle recognises a lot more words than the subset it chooses from as correct.

I’ve managed to do it twice, no idea how. Pure fluke.

I just enter any 5 letter word that comes into my head. Can't be bothered with strategies. Byrdle is interesting; music theme.
