Can I ask here fir traffic your experiences of mirena coil pains after fitting? I had it done yesterday along with a biopsy. I'm getting cramps that feel abit similar to Labour pains in the mild stages.

Hi OP, I’m a sexual health nurse. The cramping is normal, we dilate your cervix and insert a sounding rod into your uterus twice during the procedure and introduce a foreign body. The cramps can last a couple of days but they should be manageable with pain relief and a hot water bottle. If you’re no better in a few days or you start getting a discharge or anything, contact your local GUM clinic and we can help Smile

Thank you so much. They are located on the left and are abit intense compared to period pains.

Keep an eye on it and if the pain gets any worse or is no better by the end of tomorrow, please please seek advice as the risks of the procedure include infection and perforation of the uterus. If you start feeling unwell in yourself, spiking a fever, get any smelly discharge or anything then get help straight away. I hope it settles for you as it’s a fab method of contraception Smile

I had very similar, right down to the pain being on the left. Lasted 3 or 4 days. Then had the occasional twinge for a few days, but nothing that needed painkillers.

Thank you @GrolliffetheDragon

Hopefully it won't be for long

Every time I have it done I forget how bloody sore the cramps are after (I always book the day off afterwards)
