How can I find out if someone has a mortgage on a property?

Is there any way to find this out please?

If you know the property address you can search for the deeds through the Land Registry: www.gov.uk/search-property-information-land-registry
If there is an outstanding mortgage then the lender will be listed on the deeds (they have a "charge" on the property). There is a charge for the info though.
