To be paranoid about a bug I’ve seen on my wall?

I hate bugs and pests. I loathe them. They give me anxiety. Usually my flat is free of all pests because I’m painstakingly meticulous about cleaning every nook and cranny.

However today I spotted this creature and I have gone into full panic mode. I spotted a different kind of bug in my bathroom yesterday and that’s two bugs in 24 hours. That’s way too many bugs for me.

Please help me- what do you think this is??? Do I need to call a pest control professional? Don’t tell me it’s silverfish. Ugh.

I’m sorry but that looks very much like a silverfish.

Akire · 01/03/2022 17:45

Looks like baby caterpillar to me do you have tree near a window?

TurkishDelight57 · 01/03/2022 17:47

@Akire I do but the window doesn’t open.

Yuck!!! What could I have done to cause this? I have a dehumidifier on all the time, and I clean every nook and cranny, I move everything

We had silverfish coming from under the bath, a floorboard had gotten damp from a leak. There will be something damp somewhere. You need to take the bath panel off and look at night, they don’t come out in the light.

Akire · 01/03/2022 17:51

Silver fish are silver unless your camera is really rubbish.

Hermymee · 01/03/2022 17:52

We got rid of ours by sprinkling dichotomous earth under the bath. It’s non toxic and I haven’t seen one for years now. Good luck!

Hermymee · 01/03/2022 17:53

@Akire The ones I saw were really dark grey. They were definitely silverfish and looked exactly like that!

sadpapercourtesan · 01/03/2022 17:55

It does look like a silverfish.

Such a lovely name for such a disgusting little entity Grin

WheelieBinPrincess · 01/03/2022 17:56

Ooh silverfish are wicked little bugs, they can live on dust for years and years. They’d probably survive a nuclear fallout 😂

You do have anxiety? Or a bug phobia?

Probably every single flat/dwelling in the entire country has some creature other than people and pets living in it.

TurkishDelight57 · 01/03/2022 17:59

Yes I am on medication for anxiety Sad And for some reason (due to a horrible experience with a rental property in the past, I have an absolute phobia for pests.

Do silverfish cause harm?

Regarding the bath panel- I just recently had my
Entire bathroom taken apart and redone, about 3-4 months ago. There was a leak, but it was fixed and hasn’t returned since.

I’m on the ground floor and it has been rather wet and gloomy recently, so perhaps it’s the weather??

WheelieBinPrincess · 01/03/2022 18:00

No, silverfish don’t cause home.

WheelieBinPrincess · 01/03/2022 18:00

TurkishDelight57 · 01/03/2022 18:00

I know it sounds silly that I don’t have a carpet, but I don’t...

Hopefully their not living in your home it may have come off someone’s clothing

TurkishDelight57 · 01/03/2022 18:01

Are they going to eat my flesh or my clothes and handbags while I’m asleep? (Make fun, but I will genuinely lie awake worrying about this, anxiety is a beast)

No, they’ll just eat some dust and dead skin and generally keep themselves to themselves.
OneTC · 01/03/2022 18:02

You don't need a carpet. They eat textiles

TurkishDelight57 · 01/03/2022 18:03

Maybe my cleaner brought them in from someone else’s place? I’ll just do a clear out of everything, but I know that if they were infesting my property I’d see more than one. At least I think.

I’ll get someone to spray an insecticide or spray one myself just for peace of mind.

OP posts:
TurkishDelight57 · 01/03/2022 18:03

Noooooooo. So they’ll eat my clothes??

OP posts:
sadpapercourtesan · 01/03/2022 18:03

They will not and cannot harm you.

I have a similar phobia (of a different small, repulsive creature) and it's terrifying. No fun-poking from me Flowers
