Just listened to the text messages between a young Russian soldier and his mother.
Absolutely heartbreaking.
The bastard Putin not only happy to murder Ukrainians but his own people too.
How do we help with this?
I am so angry and sad.

I am so sad and frightened for everyone fighting this. I can’t even imagine my adult children war

wossgoinon · 28/02/2022 20:39

Going to war I mean

sillyrubberduck · 28/02/2022 20:46

Heartbreaking. I have a nearly 18 DS. I can't even imagine Sad.

MuchTooTired · 28/02/2022 20:59

I’m having a little cry for his mama right now.

My little boy is only 4 and calls me mama still, I can’t imagine my happy little chappy dying fighting, and my last moments with him being publicised worldwide.

I completely appreciate that this is probably the wrong take on it (I’m not a Russian sympathiser or anything), I think it’s the use of the word mama and thinking what a horrific waste of life this bastard has caused.

achara · 28/02/2022 21:11

It's horrific young children (18 I consider children) going to war to be murdered because of some idiot. Feel sick just reading that txt

Georgeskitchen · 28/02/2022 21:32

You might be best stepping away from.thw news if it's upsetting you so much. That's what I did when my sons were out in Afghanistan with the raging at its highest.
Only way to deal with it I'm afraid

ThisIsGroundControl · 28/02/2022 21:36

I came to post this. I care about the Ukrainians and the Russians, the ordinary, doing as they are told, hard working Russians. Those that are finding the rouble worthless, those that have been sent to war. I can't imagine how their lives have changed in a week.

I disagree. From my privileged position I don't think pretending it isn't happening is the way forward. Not least because it is important to know the sacrifice that is made by so few

Just a boy, wasn’t he? I think loss of young Russian life is the quickest way to turn Russians against Putin.

I hate this loss of life. How, in all the advances we have made in life, are we reduced to killing, to make our point? The moment a politician suggests this he should be removed.

That is so simplistic, UK boys (and the majority are boys) have given their lives for reasons that no longer seem relevant.

twilightermummy · 28/02/2022 21:53

Oh apologies, I should have read the story properly. I’ll ask for my ignorant comment to be removed.

StCharlotte · 28/02/2022 22:04

The Ukrainians couldn't have asked for a more "perfect" text exchange.

I was almost sceptical for a nano-second but the sliver of almost childish hope in the question about the parcel will haunt me for a very long time. Absolutely heartbreaking Sad

ThisIsGroundControl · 28/02/2022 22:08

twilight in any war the winners are never those who are sent as cannon fodder, I agree its hard to see the humanity when we read about atrocities, but the great majority are just someone's son, sent in blind faith. I grieve for them all and know only too well that there but by the Grace of God go I.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 28/02/2022 22:48

My 18 year old son has just come to me having read this, my heart is breaking seeing his reaction to this and how he relates to another young boy thousands of miles away

He asks how does he change it? and sees the futility of signing petitions. They’re just fucking kids he says.

The only hope I can give him is that my own belief is this is finally a tipping point when the world changes and says enough

Until recently he was an army cadet, proud of his uniform but I can’t look at the pictures of him because I see a child just a boy and can’t stop thinking of all those other boys in uniform who aren’t playing soldiers but living the reality

Good I hate Putin
