My daughter is 18 months old and has been suffering from chest infection since last Tuesday, she is on antibiotics. She has been home from nursery and I have taken the week off work as annual leave due to this.
I am separated from her father and he lives a two hour drive from us. It was planned I would take our daughter up to his for the weekend yesterday morning.
He has another child a son, who does not live with him. He saw his son on Wednesday and his son normally stays at my ex partners house on a Friday. This Friday evening my ex partner phoned me to say when he picked his son up that day he seemed unwell so he did a covid test on them and it was positive, he then took him home.
My ex partner said he if he did a covid test on Saturday morning and it was negative i should still take our daughter to his for the weekend. He said he had all the windows open at home when doing the test on his son . He would have picked his son up in his car and driven for 25 minutes with the windows closed. When he had his son over on Wednesday it would have been indoors with windows closed .
I did not agree that I should take our daughter to his house if he tested negative because I do not think a LFT would detect covid so early after exposure and there would still be a risk he could pass covid to our daughter. Given she already had a chest infection this is not a risk I would be willing to take so I cancelled our plans to take her to his for the weekend.
This has not gone down well at all, I have explained our daughters health is my priority and I understand he is disappointed but we have to do what is best for her.
He can not see my point at all. Would you of done the same as me or would you still have taken her to see him? I am doubting myself now.
He saw our daughter last weekend at my house and providing he tests negative for covid this week I am happy to take our daughter up to his next weekend.
