Going on holiday and feel fat

Fatso135 · 27/02/2022 19:48

NC for this! So I’m going on holiday on 1st April and feeling really down as I won’t be fitting into my old holiday clothes . I have put on around 2 stones since last holiday. So my questions are a) can I lose around a stone before my holiday and if so how? B) can someone advise me on what clothes to buy in case I don’t lose the weight? I’m size 14/16 on bottoms and weirdly size 10 top. All the weight seems to have gone to my bum and hips and stomach. What kind of clothes to hide this?

I lost a couple of inches by walking 10000 steps a day, proper hard walking, up and down hills and around the village where I live. The exercise really helped me tone up.
I eventually lost a stone very slowly (and kept it off) by stopping eating sugar including fruit. Good luck, you'll get lots of conflicting advice I think, I hope you find a method which works for you Smile

Clothes-wise, depends on your style, if you're a bit of a hippy, then a tiered patterned maxi skirt and vest top would work, not such a good tip if hippy isn't your style though.

@BadgeronaMoped thank you! I feel so ugly and disgusting, I don’t want to spoil the holiday for DH and the kids. I’ll probably be avoiding all photos lol

Are you me? I'm also going on holiday a few days before you to somewhere warm. Am about 1.5 stine overweight. Really hoping I can lose some weight before then. I feel so shallow admitting it but I won't have as good a holiday if I've not lost some weight. I'm starting a strict diet tomorrow. No sugar, low carb, lots of walking. Maybe we can support each other? Good luck

This will be a bit controversial no doubt but if I need to lose weight quickly the one thing guaranteed to work is going all out and drastically cutting calories by doing something like Slimfast or Exante.

I use Purition and have a drink for lunch and one for dinner, but a normal breakfast and usually lose half a stone in a fortnight.

I did this last Sumner and have kept the half stone off. For me because the weight drops off so quickly it gives me the boost I need to keep going. It is tough to start though!

DSGR · 27/02/2022 21:02

I’m losing 1.5-2lb a week at the moment through just having lunch and dinner. No breakfast and no booze. Low carb but lots of other food like meat, eggs, salad and vegetables to fill me up

BulletTrain · 27/02/2022 21:07

I piled on half a stone before my wedding and my dress wouldn't do up so I did the Special K diet. Obviously not a long term strategy but it was a case of needs must!

Fatso135 · 27/02/2022 21:09

@Whatisthisarghhh yes we should support each other! Let’s post on here how we getting on.

Thank you for advice everyone. I agree with slimfast as I lost lots of weight 15 years ago (before my wedding!) problem now is I have kids do house full of snacks. I’m an emotional eater so if I’m really upset or really happy I eat.

I think tomorrow I will focus on sub one meal for a shake and just have a few low key weeks where I don’t meet people so don’t have excuse for eating. Work is super stressful right now so don’t know how to let that not affect me.

@BulletTrain can you tell me what you are exactly, was it cereal all day and nothing else? How quickly did u lose a stone?

Just looked in my cupboard, don’t have slim fast but have a packet of the protein works powder that’s never been opened.

Low carb, high protein
Exercise
Well fitting clothes and supportive bra
FAKE TAN

No faddy diets, you’ll lose water weight and muscle and then put it all back on

The bit in caps is the most important though, nothing makes you look better than some fake tan

Small cereal for breakfast, same for lunch (with an apple or something), small normal dinner. Bananas as snacks. I lost about 2lb a week.

TeaAndSympathy2022 · 28/02/2022 22:42

Was going to say organise yourself a manicure and pedicure!

WorraLiberty · 28/02/2022 22:46

OP, honestly I don't think you should focus on your weight right now. I mean obviously focus on losing it in the future as it's making you miserable.

But for now, why not focus on enjoying the build up to your holiday by getting your hair and nails done and buying new holiday clothes?

Wherever you're going, there'll be people of all shapes and sizes just simply having a great time with their families.

MaryStuart · 28/02/2022 22:48

I’m going on hols in a few weeks and have been doing Slimfast for a few weeks, hoping to shift up to 1/2 a stone. I’ve lost a 3-4 lbs so far, so it is working.
Good luck op!

Febrier · 28/02/2022 22:50

I'm on the side of buying some comfortable holiday clothes and booking in for any grooming that will make you feel better. Be confident and happy on holiday for your kids.

tigerbear · 28/02/2022 22:58

Same here, I’m going on 2nd April to somewhere warm, and hoping to lose at least half a stone and tone up beforehand.
Best things for me are low carb, and doing a mix of 30 Day Shred, running and swimming.
Going to try more Ring Fit too.

Good luck everyone!

Yellowsubhubabubbub · 28/02/2022 23:35

You’re not going to loose a stone in a month.
You could maybe try for half a stone - to make yourself feel a bit more comfortable ?
You’ve got kids and snacks - you’re setting yourself up to fail. Sad
You’ll feel so much more accomplished and less stressed ( and probably actually manage to maintain ) if you give yourself a realistic goal. No shame in being a work in progress - especially after bloody 2 years of lockdowns!
Half your dinner portions
No one gets takeaways for a month
Cereal /porridge for breakfast
Don’t go hungry- you’ll just crack by 7pm and raid the kids snacks.
*also , if you do want a bit of chocolate- kids Freddos are good!
Work out your BMR and see what you’d need to eat/burn calorie wise in order to loose, but not make your body go into panic starve mode!
Get your steps in. You’ll be amazed how much you’ll walk on the spot to get yhay 10,000 steps haha
You sound pear shaped - Sarongs are back in fashion , show off your gorgeous slender tummy and arms and cover the bottom ( but it’s very en trend to be pear right now! Embrace the curve!)

  • I’ve lost 3+stone PP doing this. Oh and no booze. It’s been not much fun, but I didn’t starve and still had a few biscuits

This. Or intermittent fasting: eat between 8 hrs, fast for 16, low carb high fat or carnivore diet, sauerkraut and maybe kefir for gut health and weight loss (research shows this)

There’s good stuff on youtube explaining the science behind these
