You may now all quote my OP

Is anyone else getting really bored by people quoting the OP in their response? It makes a thread sooooo long and tedious to scroll through.

Can we collectively agree to stop? We all know what you're talking about, you don't need to quote the OP!

Thank you.

And now you may all quote my OP as you tell me to fuck off GrinGrin

Was just thinking this exact same thing Grin.

I would love to know why people do it though Confused!

Well now that you've told me to do it, I don't want to.

Grin

Waiting to see what the majority of answers are so that I can then write a post "going against the grain here, OP".

Good idea, OP.
Xiaoxiong · 27/02/2022 11:56

Yes, they need to remove the functionality of quoting the OP. I thought this when it was first introduced, and it's particularly bad when the OP is a 5000 word essay and people quote-respond saying "this was too long and I couldn't read the whole thing" Hmm

Quoting other posts is fine but not the first post of a thread.

I personally find it easier to follow a thread if I know what post someone is replying to, a name popped in at the start of a response tells me nothing beccause I cant remember over a number of posts what that particular poster said in the first place

There are posts that you can quote and ones you cant, I like to reply to the OP's original post because then its clear Im replying to that post and not a different post from the OP

To be honest I do find this forum difficult to follow, I cant find when I stopped reading,d espite following advice to bookmark posts and cant always quote a post to reply.

TheUsualShitshow · 27/02/2022 12:05

You can't quote a post that already contains a quote, that's the difference.

You can just reply to the OP by saying 'OP, I think...' without quoting their entire life story though. It makes such hard reading for other people.

I wish it was possible to just quote one paragraph of a post. Sometimes you want to reply to a specific point but the only option is to quote the whole thing.

NETSRIK · 27/02/2022 12:09

I'm getting fed up of quoting posts (not the OP by the way) only for it not to be included in my post which then makes me look like I'm having an argument or agreeing with myself.

TheUsualShitshow · 27/02/2022 12:09

Yes me too!

Sometimes you are really responding to one sentence of a post; I guess on a laptop you can copy and paste, but on phone it's all or nothing, and it starts to get so messy and entangled!

Mostlyjustrunning · 27/02/2022 12:09

Oh OP I cannot quote you at all. Why is this? Sad

Ah I can this. Is it the quote within a quote thing?

Oh does that happen? It usually happens to me and photos; I post a big explanation and there's no bloody image...

Not really I agree with you. Especially when it's a whole page OP and they respond with

"I agree"

@IsItTooHotInHere

If there are paragraphs
you would
Have to at the start and at the end of every one for bold to work. Very time consuming.

KitKattaktik · 27/02/2022 12:41

On other forums you can select what bits you want to quote. Usually just a few words! Here it's all or nothing. Hmm

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 27/02/2022 12:41

... but when someone post 'Great idea', 'That's stupid' or 'Same here' one may not know which post they are referring to.

TheUsualShitshow · 27/02/2022 12:44

TBH if I was going to just post 'great idea' I probably wouldn't bother Grin
