What is your monthly electricity usage?

Hanooooooo · 25/02/2022 17:51

I live in a 1 bedroom flat (all electric) and my provider has told me in January my usage was:

Day consumption: 596.4 kWh
Night consumption: 230.5 kWh

It seems incredibly high. What is yours and how big is your home?

I have just checked my bill. Can't quite believe the figures.
Bill from 9th Dec to 9th Jan.
274 night
373 day
I have a tiny one bedroom house -all electric, work from home full time.
I do try to do washing etc when it's lower rate as much as possible.

Wherearemymarbles · 25/02/2022 18:12

Heating uses fiendishly large amount of electricity.
So might not be that high.
We have a small very well insulated garden room thats about 150lwh per month to heat over winter - and heating is not on that much and set to 17 deg

wolfmom · 25/02/2022 18:17

2 1/2 bed terrace. I do have gas cooker, boiler.
153kWh electric and 125kWh gas for last 30 days

Do you have an economy 7 tariff and storage heaters? You may have to adjust when you do washing/heat water, etc as certain times are cheaper than others
frustratedashell · 25/02/2022 18:23

I live in one bed flat, it's all electric. My daytime consumption last month was 168kw and nighttime was 134.
I do try to be frugal.

cuno · 25/02/2022 18:24

I can see my usage for January was 424.49kWh altogether. I can't see a breakdown of day and night, that's only on my quarterly bills. I live in a 3 bed terrace with one other adult and one child, all electric and no gas.

frustratedashell · 25/02/2022 18:24

Hanooooooo is your immersion heater on all the time? Yours does seem high

Duntelchaig · 25/02/2022 18:26

14 Jan to 14 Feb

Day 389 KW
Night 81 KW

2 bed house, all electric, immersion heater on during the night and wet central heating rarely on with 6kw electric boiler.

McScreamysGhostPants · 25/02/2022 18:27

I use 10,000kw a year electric. No idea about gas

TolkiensFallow · 25/02/2022 18:32

2510kwh per year electric

10040 kWh per year gas

2/3 bed semi detached house.

Wow!

UK average is 2900 KWH per year electricity

I live in a flat. We use about 1600 KWH electricity and 9000 KWH gas.

frustratedashell · 25/02/2022 18:32

McScreamysGhostPants, wow that's a lot, I've just checked mine for the year and it's 2,900.
But I do live in a 1 bed flat

Sorry to quote myself, but I just checked and that is my highest month yet, so not representative of my general use. My lowest month was 283.71 in September. It's usually somewhere in the 300s.
MaisyMary77 · 25/02/2022 18:37

That does seem quite high. 950 kWh here. Fairly large house and two EVs to charge.

PicaK · 25/02/2022 18:39

27,000 kwh gas and 7400kwh electric annually.

However every single price comparison site adjusts my consumption to 24 and 6. So be really careful.

Chloemol · 25/02/2022 18:49

3 bed semi, for Jan 167.22 KWH. Heating is gas

Doratheexploret · 25/02/2022 18:52

5 people, 5 beds we use 2000-3000kw of electricity per year.

Doratheexploret · 25/02/2022 18:53

Scrap that it 2000-3000 per quarter not year.

Doratheexploret · 25/02/2022 18:56

I just checked mine, our estimated usage for this year is 11,000 kw.
McScreamysGhostPants · 25/02/2022 20:36

All the people saying i use a LOT..... I know. I live in a 5 bed council house. The top floor is apex and you can hear the rain on the roof like it's a caravan so it's not insulated at all. In the summer it's sweltering and in the winter it's freezing. We've given up trying to heat the top and keep the doors shut 24/7 , only opening to go to bed and come down in the morning. The kids live on the floor down from my room. Teens that have 2-3 monitors/TVs each and will put the heating up when they are cold and then open a window when they are hot. Trying to get the message across is exhausting but slowly sinking in.

I also run a dirty sex pond for 6-7 months of the year for my arthritis . I love cooking and my oven and hob are all electric. Have managed to reduce my bills a bit by getting the kids to use a air fryer instead of the oven etc.

MushroomCat · 25/02/2022 20:50

Last 30 days:

Electric: 296kwh
Gas: 1224kwh

I'm trying to get it down further but I don't know how without turning my heating completely off forever.

contactornotthatisthequestion · 25/02/2022 20:51

550kw electric, 1050kw gas this month but yearly is 5800kw elec and 8700kw gas
3bed end row of 4, insulated outside. 5people and i run tumble dryer loads and always a pc or tv on, usually 2/3 of each most afternoons

speakout · 25/02/2022 20:55

480KWH/month.
I keep these figures in my head.

4 Bed house with 3 big downstairs rooms. No tumble drier, but I do have a dishwasher and always lots of computers running.
