Thrush?

Have posted in health but suffering and need quick answers!
DH and I had sex for the first time in months last week. I’ve felt sore ever since but I put it down to the fact that I was pretty dry at the time (sorry tmi)
Anyway yesterday I started feeling incredibly itchy down there and last night noticed a small pea sized lump on my labia. It doesn’t hurt unless I squeeze it.
Anyway I got a mirror down there to have a look and it’s red raw with a weird sticky discharge (no smell to it). Quick google … thrush? Does this sound right? I’d rather not go to doctor if I can get away with it. Can I buy something over the counter?
The itching is much worse today, unbearable itching - where has the lump come from? How did I get thrush?!

You can buy pessaries, cream, oral tablets over the counter or even online. Thrush can be triggered by lots of things including sex especially if you weren't sufficiently lubricated.

Bagelsandbrie · 25/02/2022 07:30

You need the lump checked out. It’s not normal to have a lump with thrush. (I have recurrent thrush and am under a specialist for it due to autoimmune conditions).

NippyWoowoo · 25/02/2022 10:03

...herpes

You don't get lumps with thrush...

What has your DH been doing while you two weren't doing anything

SinisterBumFacedCat · 25/02/2022 10:12

Herpes was my first thought too. Get yourself seen asap they can prescribe antivirals which will help. Also get lots of ice packs because you will need them!

ChristmasAtHogwarts · 25/02/2022 10:14

I get thrush a lot and don’t ever get a lump. What does the lump look like?

ThreePac · 25/02/2022 10:38

The lump is the same colour as the rest of my skin, pea sized and quite hard

Bintymcbintface · 25/02/2022 12:54

You wouldn't get lumps with thrush, just slight redness, funky lumpy discharge and itching. I'd go get the lump checked out, it may be something silly perhaps a result of friction if you weren't sufficiently lubricated, I have no idea what herpes down there looks like but would be good to rule that out or treat if that's what it is

ThreePac · 25/02/2022 19:37

I just popped it, loads of puss squirted out with a bit of blood so think it was a cyst

Hurting like a bitch now though but still good to know I don’t have a lump there anymore 😂

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 25/02/2022 19:39

Could have been an ingrown hair that caused it

Snowdon564 · 25/02/2022 19:40

Ohh that herpes, an sti. If you have been having sex the two of you for a while and now have this….someone’s been playing away 😬

Cocomelonearworm · 25/02/2022 19:40

I was going to say it sounds like a bartholin's cyst rather than thrush. Ouch!

Don't talk rubbish
Mogul · 25/02/2022 19:45

Sounds like a cyst, I had them when I was young before ever even having sex

Juke1 · 25/02/2022 19:48

This thread is an excellent example of why not to listen to mumsnet re health concerns! Fancy telling someone they have herpes (description of problem is clearly not to anybody with GUM knowledge).

Hutchy16 · 25/02/2022 19:58

Why are all of you saying herpes…it’s clearly a cyst. Why would you try to put negative thoughts into OPs mind when all she wanted was for actual advice. Way to go on the support for each other!

Snowdon564 · 25/02/2022 20:08

Because you don’t get bumps/lumps with thrush, so it could just as easily be herpes as it could be a cyst/lesion/ingrown hair, but as they haven’t had sex for so long it’s got more chance of being herpes than the others (because I’m too cynical maybe too)

dementedpixie · 25/02/2022 20:43

Herpes involves blisters not flesh coloured lumps. Sounds like it was a cyst

HereComesTheSum · 25/02/2022 20:47

This and thrush most likely together. You needed to have a proper warm up pre sex especially if you haven't done it for a while. I've had a batholins cyst once (you absolutely shouldn't have popped it, you're not well open to infection, they go away on their own unpopped)
HereComesTheSum · 25/02/2022 20:49

P.s you do need to speak to the doc as you've popped it you need it checking and likely antibiotics or you could get an infection.

Hutchy16 · 25/02/2022 21:03

But your cynicism could have caused real issues for op…imagine if he has previously cheated, this completely innocent thing could stir up a lot of previous issues in a marriage

midlifecrash · 25/02/2022 21:08

Ask pharmacist re over counter and if you have live natural yoghurt you can try that meantime for the itching.

ABitOfAShitShow · 25/02/2022 21:23

It’s clearly not herpes. You wouldn’t have a flesh coloured lump that you can bear to pop! Probably an ingrown hair if not a cyst.

Get the pessary and cream combo for the thrush. Re: the rawness, I had cracks once with thrush (verified by a doctor) so the ‘rawness’ makes sense. Also - if you’ve scratched it, that’d do it.
