To ask for your recommendations in Leeds/York area?

I'm meeting a friend next weekend for a day out with our DC - between us we have a 3 year old, an 11 month old and a 10 month old. We are thinking Leeds or York as either would be roughly half way for us both.

Does anyone have any recommendations of where we could go? I'm thinking outdoor farm type places, or indoor soft play (weather dependent)? Somewhere that will suit a toddler and 2 babies. We are hoping to stay in an air b&b somewhere too so will need to have one nearby!

Thanks Smile

Temple Newsam? museumsandgalleries.leeds.gov.uk/temple-newsam/

I haven't been for a while so can't say what it's like recently but I certainly loved it as a kid. Not sure about Airbnb, I'm sure there are some around but there is a Premier Inn very close (almost walking distance, if not for the little ones).

And if the weather turns you're a short drive from Garforth, where I understand there are 2 soft play centres Smile

There’s an urban farm in North Leeds at Meanwood which I’ve heard is quite nice but probably wouldn’t do you a long visit. Also North of Leeds - Roundhay Park; good for a yomp and there’s a Tropical World venue which might be fun for little ones.

Another slightly off piste thought - Yorkshire Sculpture Park is about 20-30 mins outside Leeds and is gorgeous but maybe not the best destination to navigate with buggies.

Stockeld park
Temple newsam
Cannon hall
Creepy crawlies
Roundhay park
Lotherton hall
Eureka childrens museum

There are a plethora of play gyms in and around leeds (most of which I've been to🙈) if the weather is pants

Xscape in Castleford its brilliant OP. Lots of choice for the kids. Climbing wall, arcades, cinema, bowling, trampoline Park, golf and so on.

Sorry just read the ages!

Mammyloveswine · 24/02/2022 23:06

The railway museum was a hit when mine when mine were 3 and 1!

Jigsaw juniors in Horsforth and Bramley Leeds are both great soft plays for your aged children.

Other activities around Leeds

Golden acre Park
Cannon hall farm (bit far perhaps)
Temple Newsam
Roundhay park and Tropical world are a great combination of indoor/outdoor and there is the Roundhay Fox pub for lunch/dinner all within a short walk

Cannon Hall is the other side of the M1 it's nowhere near York and about 45 minutes from Leeds, closer to Wakefield and Barnsley.

Eureka again nowhere near either its in Halifax! Absolute mileage from York.

Having lived in a suberb between Leeds and York for much of my adult life and until oldest was 3 I would suggest:

Stockeld Park - outdoors and really fantastic

Lotherton - outdoors, again great, easy parking, okay food, there's an aviary with penguins, other birds and meerkats etc. Plus parkland an adventure playground and a smaller playground designed more for the littlies. This is near where we lived and very much in between Leeds and York.

Roundhay Park & Tropical World, t world is inside and the park is obviously outside, its lovely parkland, and there's a great playground which was revemped a while back. Quite a walk between that and t world. Cafe is rubbish, the pub is better (fam friendly).

The only soft play I would go to would be Grasshoppers in Tong....I hate soft play but this really is amazing in the context of soft play , nothing else in the area comes anywhere close, it's not at the York side of Leeds though.

Temple Newsham is okay but it's always full of dog 💩💩, literally everywhere and there's always loads of crazy dogs off lead

Where do you both actually live? My favourite places were always A World of Their Own or Newby Hall, the first is Harrogate way. And NH is off the M1 but closer to Ripon than York.

ANP2020 · 24/02/2022 23:30

Hello

I’d say Cannon hall farm, eureka childrens museum, Yorkshire wildlife park (Doncaster) for full days out!

Lots of different soft plays in Leeds depends where abouts you’ll be?

leopardprintisnotaneautral · 24/02/2022 23:30

Oh there's Piglets farm between Leeds and York as well, only managed there once before we moved but it was great!

leopardprintisnotaneautral · 24/02/2022 23:32

Eureka is not near York whoever closer to York is going to have a horrible time sat on a big chunk on the M1 and M62 if you go there!

Mumoftwoinprimary · 24/02/2022 23:48

Web adventure park?

SufferingJet · 24/02/2022 23:56

One word: PIGLETS! It is perfect

IdblowJonSnow · 24/02/2022 23:58

Creepy Crawlies

flumposie · 25/02/2022 00:09
