To think about pulling out my dental dissolvable stitches?

I had a wisdom tooth removed under GA 11 days ago. On Tuesday I was back for an emergency check up due to a huge infection.

The antibiotics are helping, but it is now apparent that it's the stitches in my cheek pulling so tightly inwards, that I have a large abscess around the stitched in point. It's like an ingrown toenail and the infection is not going to go until that stitch does.

I can't stand this pain and need these stitches out. Would it be so bad to do it myself?

Can you not go back to your dentist/hospital?

Get urgent advice but really don’t do it yourself

Seek proper medical advise but removing dissolving stitches before they are ready to be removed won’t help much in the long run with healing.

I would, very clean scissors be very careful, if it’s not bleeding they’ve done their job. Oral surgery nurse of 25 years Grin

I managed to untie mine with my tongue ( proud)
But I am a bugger for taking my own stitches out when they start irritating!

I’d get a professional. My last stitch was stubborn af, it finally came out just as I was about to go to the dentist. Had same procedure 7 years ago and am infection and it all healed just fine.

I was booked to see the surgeon tonight, but because I went on tuesday as an emergency, they have cancelled my appointment.

I can't even get to the damn knot in the stitch, it's pulling so far into my cheek its cut a big hole and I'm drinking infection with every move.

What about A and E

I spoke to his secretary who is amazing. She had blocked the appointment for me incase I wanted it, but cancelled it so I wasn't charged as a no show should I not turn up.
Appointment reinstated so fingers crossed these damn things can come out tonight.

Has anyone who has had this done had their stitches removed at 11 days ish? They are dissolvable but going no where fast.
