AIBU to ask them to swap the fridge

My fridge/freezer is making a loud popping noise, happens any time throughout the day. Anyway, its sends my dog into a panic every time it happens thinking someones in the house.

When it happens in the day it drives me mad but its daytime but when it happens at night she wakes me up and im so tired.

Its still under warranty so someone came out but without hearing the noise he couldnt tell what was wrong and said couldnt change parts for nothing. Ive tried recording it on a sleep app and it wont pick the noise up. Not sure why because it is really loud.

I probably wouldnt even have noticed it if it wasnt for the dog but shes old now and in the last few months shes started to get really anxiety and I think she could be getting dementia as shes acting strange in other ways.

Would i be unreasonable to just ask them to change it or are fridge noises normal

Im pretty sure they wont anyway but I cant cope anymore

Record the noise and send it to them.

I'd be insisting on a replacement because.. well its not normal.
V unlikely but Could there be anything else causing this?
Like position or banging against something?

Brighteyedtriangle · 24/02/2022 05:54

Not sure, when it started i thought it was the boiler but its definitely coming from the fridge. Its annoying as it happens randomly most of the time i just hear it from another room and have only caught the sound a few times when im actually in the kitchen.
Ive tried recording it and it didnt seem to pick it up. Will try again tomorrow night and leave my phone on record for the night.

Is it a vibration where the fridge is leaning on something?

Totalwasteofpaper · 24/02/2022 06:26

It is 100% the fridge? Not anything near the fridge.
If in any doubt I'd be inclined to test it by unplugging the fridge.

I thought there was a problem with my boiler for ages and it the wind catching a ventilation pipe making a popping sound near the boiler.

If it’s a AEG ours used to go off like a gun shot sometimes. It’s expansion of cooling coils nothing to worry over about, but sure is a bit scary at times

mogsrus · 24/02/2022 07:01

Why would they change it as technically it’s working, so not obligated to do so, & the next one may start the same process after a while.
Is it still under warranty? But as said before, it’s probably just the gas in the coils

GeneLovesJezebel · 24/02/2022 07:04

Mine does this, makes a random ‘cracking’ noise. Not sure there’s anything you can do about it.

mogsrus · 24/02/2022 07:07

All fridges freezers make noises, they warm & go cold again. The coils heat up with the liquid inside & then revert to a gas state under pressure, it’s all physical movement so something has to relieve itself of pressure somewhere

IamMaz · 24/02/2022 11:52

I think if you read the User Guide, it explains the fridge will make noises.

Brighteyedtriangle · 24/02/2022 12:48

Im 99% sure its the fridge. Ill try switching it off though.
It is under warranty as it was bought last June.
Its only started doing it in the last couple of months so I do think there is something wrong with it.
I wouldnt care if it wasnt for the dog.
She is german shepherd so not a panicy dog by nature and its sending her into melt down everytime it happens.
Im hoping i can get the noise on record and go from there

Do you have an ice dispenser? Ours makes noise when the ice is ready drops into the bucket waiting to be dispensed. Although you probably would have figured that out by now - it took me a couple of days Blush

Skyeheather · 24/02/2022 13:04

Read the whole instruction book to see if there's any mention in there about it.

Google the make and model number, see if anyone has mentioned this problem in any reviews on or online forums.

Definitely turn it off for a while to reassure yourself it's the fridge making the noise. Don't open the fridge while it's off.

My fridge freezer makes the same noise, but it’s quite old and I think the seal around the door may be perishing a little which might be affecting the temperature within.

No water or ice dispenser
