What makes French farmhouse bedding feel luxurious

I want to recreate that type of bedding you get when you stay in a traditional french farmhouse, where the duvet feels heavy and the linens almost a bit stiff but so luxury.

Is it the linen type? Duvet type? What should I be googling?

I must admit that I've never found French bedding that special. Maybe the places I've stayed aren't "traditional" enough.

I know what you mean. We stayed in a house - beside the sea though- and I have never slept so deeply. The mattress felt as if it was a mètre deep and the linen was sumptuous. I have spent the last 20 years trying to recreate it.

Thick cotton sheets. An eider down. Wool blankets on top tucked in well. Thick cotton quilted throws. Wool mattress topper.

We have a wool duvet which is like a weighted blanket

Google french linen I think?

Starch makes decent cotton feel heavy and a little stiff. I love starched sheets.

I stayed in an air b&b with La Redoute 'linot' sheets and they were lovely. Is this the kind of thing you're after?

Mattress topper. Big thick one. Don't go cheap on it.
Following to see how to recreate the sheets feel.
I think also a room decor that feels 'done' can create that restful vibe. Heavy lamps. Pics on wall. Wallpaper not paint.
