The sensationalist media

I've had to limit my news intake over recent years for the sake of my mental health and I notice that other people are made more anxious by the media too. Of course I want to know what's going on in the world but it's not helpful to make everyone panic and freak out with sensational headlines. Has it always been this way? I know freedom of the press is really important but bring back Keep Calm And Carry On please. I'm exhausted.

The only way the large media companies will be more factual and less sensationalised is if people switch off from it, or to other factually accurate sources.

I haven't got involved in what is going on with Russia as I panicked over it then when I was pregnant in 2014 and decided not to this time. At least if it is something major I haven't wasted my time being anxious in the run up to it happening.

Sometimes the news and how it exaggerates events is just a diversion tactic from our own government being corrupt and fucking up. The louder they shout about other headlines, the more my first thought it 'what are they trying to bury or divert my attention from here'.

People should discipline themselves to look at it once a day and then leave it. The media is an overcrowded industry and therefore in order to stand out and sell newspapers or get hits, they have to go as over the top as possible.

I agree but it's hard to expect people to moderate their intake when it's so ubiquitous! I think it's bad for the whole country. I terminated my newspaper subscription but I'm a drop in the ocean and I'm sure they won't miss me. They'll gain dozens more through scare mongering.
