What the fuck is this about ??

I was just buying some bits online and this delightful image came up

AIBU? Yes - we should tip the poor workers at the online stores

IANBU? Seriously - surely they get wages?

I saw this recently on TikTok.

Someone had posted a comment on the business page about them asking for a tip & the young owner, who came across as slightly defensive, did say ‘it’s voluntary, I make less than minimum wage with the hours I put in, I’m a new business and sell cheaper to boost my business so no huge profit’ etc etc. She did say several times that it was voluntary and not expected but it was appreciated if people did tip.

I wouldn’t tip but I guess times are tough so I don’t begrudge them trying to get a few extra ££‘S.

Oooh that looks like a nice website!

No I think its fine if they are a small business and it's clearly optional.

I would have thought it was quite obvious.

If you don't want to all you have to do is click the helpful 'None' button.

Exactly what I was going to say. Tipping isn't mandatory, don't do it if you don't want to.

what i meant was surely we are not expected to tip online for service we havent even had yet?

Exactly that OP! This isn't asking for a tip based on service given - is that even a thing in retail? This is just chancing your arm.

They might have put your order in the slow queue because you didn't tip? Wouldn't be very professional if they did, though.
