To ask you how much you’ve paid for a painter recently?

I live in a small terraced house in the north east of England and I’m looking for a painter and decorator to strip the wallpaper and then repaint and hang new wallpaper in my box room and large cupboard.

I have really struggled getting a quote and someone finally came around today and quoted £1000 for the work and said it would take 8 days to complete.

I was shocked as I only paid £350 for my living room last year which took 2 days and is a much much bigger space.

I understand prices have gone up, but is this really the going rate now?

£20 per hour.

I’ve just paid £1,250 for my hall stairs and landing and £800 for my very large living room-diner which also included stripping all the wallpaper. He included preparing the walls, filling in and sanding and painting the woodwork in his price and he has been worth every single penny as the quality is so much better than anything j could do.

I live in the South East and pay £650 to £690 for most sized rooms to be painted which takes him three days to do. He provides the paint. To add a feature wall of wallpaper would make it £790.
