Which job ?

I've quit nursing officially now because it's untenable. So busy, no time etc.

I've been offered 3 jobs,
Band 4 anatomy support worker helping to carry out autopsy etc, on call requirements but fairly good pay and good progression

Secretary for a big firm 20k a year, 9-5 Monday- Friday.

Lab technician 20k for first year then after completing training has very good progression.

I don't know which one to take. I feel like 1& 3 are keeping my skills without the pressure of nursing. 2 is completely different turn my back on all my training and embrace the difference plus can get my nails done for the first time in my life without worrying about annual leave.

Help!

I'd go with the lab tech one, far more interesting than the admin job.

twominutesmore · 22/02/2022 06:36

I'd go for the Lab Tech position. Same salary as the secretary role but better progression. It also seems interesting, no on-call requirement.

20viona · 22/02/2022 06:37

Definitely the first one. Patients that don't give you shit sounds ideal ha.

GalactatingGoddess · 22/02/2022 06:39

What are the hours like for 1 and 3? They seem the best options,I'd avoid 2 as although the hours are steady not much progression and like you say, a complete u turn and loss of hard earnt skills eventually.

ByHook0rByCrook · 22/02/2022 07:29

Lab tech would be my choice, it sounds like a good pivot.

DenholmElliot · 22/02/2022 07:30

I'd go for 1.

girlmom21 · 22/02/2022 07:44

I'd go lab tech - it sounds like it has the most opportunities

uptonogoode · 22/02/2022 07:47

@GalactatingGoddess the hours for 1 are 37.5 hours a week and and on call requirement so I expect probably 8 hour shifts or long days still.

Lab work is 8.30-5 Monday- Friday

How easy is it to come back to jobs like 1 or 3 if you did job2 for a year? I imagine nursing as a people job, so you must be a people person, & only #2 is a true people facing job. Seeing a completely different workplace will help you decide what you still like about the other types of jobs.

chillied · 22/02/2022 07:58

I don't know what band 4 is in relation to the £20K salaries. Or what the business of the firm is, whether that's interesting.

You run the risk of getting stuck as a secretary. It can be dull.

Lab work sounds more interesting to me?

Think I'd be traumatised by autopsy but you may feel differently

DogsAndGin · 22/02/2022 08:05

Lab tech. Predictable hours. Good progression.

GalactatingGoddess · 22/02/2022 08:06

Oh in that case I'd probably go for the lab job! More steady hours, predictable, good progression....(although 1 sounds interesting it might be nice to move away from shifts)

monkeysox · 22/02/2022 08:06

What's the pay for the first one?

AFS1 · 22/02/2022 08:15

Option 3 for me…but I’m not you!
Definitely not secretary. Never get treated well and are not as valued as they should be.

dreammattemousse · 22/02/2022 08:16

Hands down lab work

LondonQueen · 22/02/2022 10:57

I'm not you but I would go for 3.

Don't be a secretary, low pay, limited progression and treated poorly.

RMS0209 · 22/02/2022 10:58

I'd go for lab technician 😀

Awrite · 22/02/2022 12:47

What's the salary for no 1?

I'd go 1 or 3.

uptonogoode · 22/02/2022 15:01

The first one pays 20k sorry I should have clarified

girlmom21 · 22/02/2022 15:27

Job 3 no question then. It's the only one where you'll definitely be paid more than 20k in the not too distance future. It's more interesting than job 2 and nicer hours than job 1.

yoyo1234 · 22/02/2022 16:59

I'd go for job 3. It may be frustrating in job 2 when you're intelligent and capable but in a different field and you may not be treated with the respect you deserve.

uptonogoode · 22/02/2022 20:48

Thanks all!
